How many are not qualified because they tested positive for THC? That would be a disqualifier as it remains illegal under federal law.

I don't think everyone in the "drug" category is an addict.

What do they call the people that are still in the Republican party and would vote for scum like Trump or DeSantis?

To call them mentally ill would be insulting to people who are actually mentally ill.

What are you even call such people at the lowest levels of humanity like them?

A friend joined the Air Force last year. A twelve year old pot possession charge held up his enlistment for months.

The Group W bench is still a thing.

Yet another labor problem solvable by improved and expanded immigration that Republicans (who say they like more legal immigration) won't permit.

I wonder about the "too fat" thing. Granted, I know from watching my kids' soccer teams that yes kids ARE fat (and these are the ones out playing rec soccer!), but the Army in particular has--or had--some screwy ideas of what "obese" is. My brother had a large frame and had something like 8% body fat and he was labelled "obese" simply on height and weight.

BMI sucks as a metric. I'm overweight according to the standards and I assure you that isn't the case. That said we've got way too many little chonkers running around this country.

Not just fat and out of shape, but getting injured in Basic at a higher rate because of it.

Most enlistees come into the Army with little background in fitness, showing up without knowing how to do the exercises included in the fitness test, Staff Sgt. Krista Osborne, the Army's 2022 drill sergeant of the year, told Military.com in October.

To try and compensate, the Army established what are basically "Pre-Boot" camps; 90-day training camps that applicants can attend to learn how to exercise and eat better so they don't get their asses handed to them at Basic. Well, any worse than normal I guess. The Navy just started a similar program.

I have so many bad takes on this. I have to wonder if the "club/traveling" sports shift over the last couple decades has introduced some systemic issues we aren't even close to understanding.

30 years ago club sports weren't *really* a thing. Any kid could just just join a team and play in a lot of schools. You didn't have to be good. Just try. Now many larger schools have camps set up early and grooming kids to be elite. Then those kids end up taking all of the spots in the Jr High and High Schools leaving no real sports options for the less competitive kids. So they just stop trying to stay active. Then it's easy to fall into a lot of other traps.

That's just one tiny piece of an overall problem, but I still would be interested to see all of the far reaching impacts of that traveling sports culture.

Our son's travel soccer started at U8 ... just saying. Very hard to get into after that. You're probably onto something here.

The government can't fix this issue. In fact, they are the cause. Whenever tehy get involved the issue becomes worse.

For example, Lunchables are now going to be a cafteria staple in every school in America. Lunchables! Talk about junk food.

Big Ag won't have it.

The other problem with the south is that it's just fucking miserable to be outside half the year. Just oppressive swamp ass humidity that isn't get any better. Welt Bulb Temps are going to be a lot more common household terms. If you are poor, a 2k Peloton + a $40/mth subscription isn't going to help you. And it's just too damn disgusting to want to do any sort of activity outside when it's 95+ 90% humidity. Anyplace where you have dewpoints routinely above 70 are just...ewwwwww.

A common piece of disinformation is food sold in school cafeterias is the same as food you buy at the store. I can confirm this is not the case
That article he linked specifies that the two versions of Lunchables for cafeterias are different from the standard versions so they'll meet the standard.

Back when I was signing up, my recruiter asked about drugs, I told him I had smoked weed, and he asked how many times. After a good ten seconds or more of me trying to do mental math to come up with a reasonable approximation, he said "five times, just remember that."

When I was in the Air Force, if this happened, you could just get a caliper test done instead of using BMI. That was back in the 90s.

Something stinks about that chart. Living in WV the % just seems way way way too low. It's a fucking soupy sauna here from at least June through September.

This was 98-2017. So it's a bit dated. I think a lot of places have seen pretty escalated heat since then. I did 6 years in Central KY. That was hot soup too about 6 months out of the year. I'd get up at 4am to beat the heat but still be drenched in sweat because of the oppressive humidity.

Humidity can eat a dick.

Yep. I'd rather be in AZ in the summer. Joke all you want about a dry heat, it's just more bearable. Assuming you have water access, that is.

This explains alot about the last few voyages to the bottom of the sea I had with the youngsters. They would literally go nuts when there was an announcement from the galley that chicken nuggets were up.

The American system is mostly based on pure consumer capitalism, making profits at all costs, and the value of a citizen is only how good of a consumer they are.

This led to Americans pioneering the way and processed food and any way to lower cost and increase margins.

The problem is not just government, The problem is a country who values corporatism and profits over people, and has too few and small barriers between business and government.

The shittiness and unhealthiness of the American diet and many of the American people is a direct result of consumer capitalism and the constant criticism that business should be as deregulated as possible, and that they should have such an overt influence in government via money and power.

It's absolutely disgusting what we're sold as kids and what is considered American food. The other thing about American food is always about bigger is better. I used to watch that show Man versus food for a bit and was entertained. Then I realized how disgusting the whole concept was. It's an American thing these over consumption indulgence things with shitty foods. Portion sizes are ridiculous in many places.

And I used to buy into it when I was younger. That's so cool look at this guy inhaling 17 double cheeseburgers. And really it's just horrific

Ah this is how the US fixes gun violence. There hasn’t been a fat school shooter yet.
I live a few klicks away from a school. The few times I've driven past the school during let hours that maybe 60% of the children are heavy. I don't mean a bit of chub, I'm talking about some walking ball shaped fat fuckers who'll be holding snacks meant for a group of 10 in their two pudgey hands.

Prioritization of health education in K-12, resulting in young adults who get into the child health industry and govt positions with a focus on children's health, resulting in a government that can actually solve the problem?
Even if they followed and worked out lost the weight you'd still have to deal with how useless gen z is when it comes to common sense and following orders.

Military would be better off spending more on psy ops and getting these kids to post their equally stipid toktik videos online in the hopes the enemy blows their brains out without us having to go to war.

Also, many don't want to serve in the military, and increasing numbers don't want to send troops to help other countries.

Hell, look at our cops too. Officer Porky Pig is pretty much the blue standard now. It works for them because now cops will just shoot you if you run, no need to crack a sweat and chase you down any more...lol!

Yep, exactly. My wife works in this area at a public school. She is often battling wrong information in this way. The standards are different, and I would say the vast majority of people, even school administrators, are unaware. All the way down to the "junk" breakfast cereal, the food has to meet certain standards. I was kinda waiting for that poster to read the 2nd sentence of the link.

Don't fall into that trap. Every generation of kids is mostly useless, that's why they're kids. That's also why they're targeted by the military.
