7750BE or M3A78-CM.....Whose at Fault?? Resolved - Somewhat...

Covering all my bases as I don't have much time to make a decision to RMA one or the other.........

Here is the skinny that I need suggestions for..........

Picked up an open box M3A78-CM from the egg. Also ordered a 7750BE and PC-3800 g. skill to run in a build.

The board arrived first so I decided to play with it using a Brisbane 4000+ and OCZ PC-6400. Worked well and even ended up wih a stable 3.0GHz overclock.

Anyway stuck the 7750 in along with the memory and it will not boot. Pulled it out and put the 4000+ back in and up we go. It even work with the new g. skill. Powered up and powered down several times and it worked.

Placed the 7750 back in and still no joy............

And yes I DID clear CMOS before starting! :laugh:

<EDIT: My bad....when I stated it wouldn't boot, I ment nothing came up no video, "load beep", nothing. No access to bios as there is nothing.

Check your bios version. You need bios 1003 for the 7750.

Since the motherboard, memory, video card all work with the Brisbane 4000+ cpu and just switching one component, your cpu, causes it to not function, you may have the cpu as the casue....esp. if the motherboard is able and capable of running your new 7750BE chip.

i doubt its the board . i had the same board runnin' a 9850BE .

New 7750 today and installed.........NO JOY!!!!!!!!!! :disgust: :brokenheart: How is it they promote this board to handle AM2+ and AM3 and it will not work with the 7750???

Am I missing something??? :thumbsdown:

7750BEs are pretty disappointing chips lol. I had one for about a week before I gave up on trying to support AMD for that generation. I'm going to say the motherboard just plain hates those chips.

I have this combo also.. When i installed everything it booted fine but I can't get the mobo to change the multiplier (I thought the multiplier was unlocked on these BE chips).. but when i change the multiplier in the bios there is no change

Okay here's one for o1die but it is weird (or maybe not) it has booted with the 1003 bios and OCZ PC-6400 memory I have. It seems I may have goofed in ordering the g. skill F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK as it will not boot with it.

Then again this is a new proc for me and will have to receive some suggestions for settings....especially if I want to get the g. skill to work.

Playing around with oc'ing and the best 8M run of SPi I could do is x16 @ 204 = 3.26GHz - 553-2T - 1.50V..........however will not even start Prime. Actually have dropped all the way back to 3.18GHz (x15 @ 212) to get anything over 10 minutes. Have notice something really strange.......in cpuz I've seen the vcore drop to 1.23V and the multi will drop to6.75!!

Not really sure why it won't let you change the multi as I been going between x 14.5 to x 16 to get something going. Gotta run but I'll look in the bios again to see if there is something I can suggest.

i downgraded to 1003 and was able to get the multiplier to work..

I love the e-z flash utility.

if you have cool and quiet one the cpu multi drops when the processor is not being used.
