What's the status on the Classy's having Samsung or Elipida memory? Are the Classy's coming with exclusive Samsung mem again? Rumors were they were running short and were shipping out with Elipida. thanks

I also want to know this too. I am afraid its luck of the draw right now. I remember when I purchased my GTX 780 and Titan they were Samsung chips and I don't think Elpida came about until later on.

It comes with either or, per JacobF. Just depends on availability for Samsung which has been scarce in the past 6 months.

sounds more and more like its not guaranteed. if i dont usually oc the mem much and do more core oc, does the classified justify itself against say a lightning or a gig wf? i was only eyeing the classy due to the sammy mem...

im just on the fence between the asus dcuII, lightning, ftw, or classy...etc.

essentially.. which 780 should i get?

You can ask on the official EVGA forums. I've seen Jacob confirm the memory shipping on the 780 classies that they are currently shipping if you purchase from them directly.

Samsung memory does make a big difference. The overclocks are huge compared to the crappy stuff. The 780 also benefits from big memory overclocks pretty significantly.

Mine has Hynix - Bought it early Dec from Newegg.
You're kidding - They're starting to put Hynix in nVidia Cards -Sish!

It use to be Hynix allotted to AMD and Samsung allotted to nVidia and Elpidia showed up on either one when the preferred vRam was not available.

I've yet to hear that Samsung vRam was found on and AMD card.

Hynix and Samsung vRam are about equal for OC'g perhaps Samsung with a very slight edge and Elpidia just will not perform above 1500Mhz's.

I don't know how long Nvidia has been using Hynix, but my 680 (almost 2 years old) is using it

780 classy's order indec have nynix. imo, samsung ran short supply and the elpidas were ocing bad and people were ciomplaining so they went to hynix which are a better alternative to samsung than elpida.

inspector 1.9.7.2 refuses to tell me what my 770 is using; hovering above the memory size does nothing at all.

Should be Memory Type, try putting your cursor on "GDDR5"

Both of the GTX780 Ti Superclocked cards I got in the last two weeks have Hynix, according to Nvidia inspector

MSI Lightning uses Elpida.

Given im at my thermal limits anyway it makes no difference for SLI.

I always loved Hynix since the ATi Sapphire HD 9800 128 to a 256 XT via a Bios Flash but Samsung is my OC'g favorite.

Elpida just plane SUCKS and GPU Card Mfgr's should designate serial #'s as to what vRam they use when batching a run.

Just got mine this week from Newegg and the Nvidia Inspector shows Hynix as the memory.

To me it's incredible that nVidia uses Hynix but it appears so.

So break the Old School implication that AMD uses only Hynix and nVidia uses Samsung but never the less both fall back on Elpida when there is a shortage.

Again Card Mfgr's should tell the Consumer what vRam is used with a batch Run.

I mean man when I spend over $700 for a Flagship card I expect the Best vRam on the Card.

I'm surprised that AnandTech Forum OP's don't shut this thread down as I've been notified several times over this Topic, specifying that Cards meet Spec's concerning guaranteed Mhz's and vRam products are irrelevant.

Grooveriding, are your Classifieds also under water? If so what GPU water block are you using?

The EVGA hydro copper blocks. I'd prefer EK because I really, really like the solution EK has for connecting multiple GPUs, but the EVGA blocks work well enough. Gaming loads are generally mid 40s and could be lower, but 600mm2 of radiator is not enough radiator for the amount of heat output from my system with these overvolted GPUs.

My only real gripe is I don't like the bright red lights behind the EVGA logos.
