The EVGA CO card is about the same price as the other GTs and comes very close to a reference speed GTX.

GTX = not worth it.

as stated above, a OC 7800GT will give you roughly the same, if not a little better performance vs. a stock GTX.

Save that $160!!

no, hell no. my overlocked 7800GT will wipe the floor with a stock 256mb GTX not to mention a few 512 GTXs.

i highly doubt that your oced gt can match them

my old gtx was oced to 530/1350 and i couldn't even touch a stock 512 gtx

you're right, just checked the ORB and stock 512s score around 9400 in 3DMark05. still a good 240+ points better than my best run. But is that really worth several hundred dollars? I'd still get the GT, jmo.

GT is a great value...imo not worth the extra cash for the gtx with the marginal increases in frames you'll see.

The problem with OCers is you always post things like "I overvolted and OCd my less expensive card to perform better than the more expensive card!"

What you leave out is that you could do the same to the more expensive card and it would still be faster.

My 7800GT@470/1200 runs about 5-10% slower that a stock 7800GTX. IMO 7800GTX@ today prices is not worth. I took the difference and invested it in a better CPU, a X2 4400

Save the $160 and use it to get something to compliment your system. RAM, better/bigger HD or whatever you want/need.

Yeah, 512 is a different beast.

Good point. Also what some seem to forget is that some folks are more than willing to pay the extra cost for the extra performance. The 7800GT is a good economic card but its no match for the 7800GTX in performance. And many games now are very gpu dependent.

rollo, there's always a limit to the depth of the wallet for most of us. I overclock for savings as much as anything else. Volt modded 7800GT= 7800GTX+ performance for ~$300. I couldn't afford anything better and like to push every penny's worth out of what I can afford.

so the logic isn't faulty, you're just abandoning the fine line between cost/performance that most of us are up against.

...sure I can voltmod a 7800GtX...but I can't afford one in the first place, so your argument becomes moot...

I overclocked my 7800gt to 794/2496

Back on track, the GTX probably isn't worth the extra money.

Besides, it's easier for me to justify extreme overclocking and volt modding a $300 video card compared to a $460 one. But that's just me

here!here!
I would cry a lot harder if I soldered through the back of a GTX than a GT.

I'd get a 7800gt over anything right now. But I guess it more depends on what size monitor you have.
