What a freaking joke. I waited on purpose for the launch of the bloody X1900 series in hope that the 7800 series from Nvidia would start reducing in selling price. Heck you would expect the X1800 series from ATI to drop as well.

I had a a few local retailers marked that had listinngs on Ebay here in Canada and they had amazing prices for the 7800GTX a while back but I said... no, wait it will drop even more. I waited and waited and BAMMMMM now they list them at freaking 50-100$ more!! LOL HAHAH what a joke.

Are these folks working the speculation and supply chain like the oil industry does? what --have the manufactures announced they are stopping production of the 7800 series at a certain date in favour of the 7900 already? Heck Ebay has higher prices for all these high end cards (X1800, X1900 and 7800 GTX series) than any of my local stores even the ones known for raping you.

Why are you waiting for prices to fall on the 7800GTX when the X1900XT is faster/cheaper?

I think this thread answered your question in the form of a question. If you know anything about supply and demand.

I just wanted to stick with Nvidia as I am so familiar with their drivers, their PureVideo and also with my silencer I know I can get my card to be almost silent. I have read some info on how loud the X1800-X1900 is. I might change my mind however based on prices.

However locally the X1900 retails way higher than the lowest 7800 GTX

hum supply and demand? All the crap load of retailers here all have 7800 GTX in stock... X1800 and X1900 are all on order -- yet the prices of the 7800 GTX have not dropped is what my issue is. I can see as they become more scarce but they are easily available.

Well, you could wait for the release of the 7900GTX and see if prices on the previous generation fall. When you say that the retailers have X1800/X1900 on order, are you talking just your local retailers or online e-tailers as well? Because I was under the impression that the X1900 series is easily available online.

The Canadian video card market is a joke.

Always has been, & continues to be.

X1900XT is not always the answer. I have a Gigabyte GA-2CEWH board. I use ATI cards in some of my other computers. Until Crossfire works in something more than their very limited selection of motherboards, nVIDIA's SLI is my only choice.

I think he's talking about the 7800 GTX 256, NOT the GTX 256. Interesting that the prices of the 256 are going up.

Three things:

1) Local prices are rarely the best, especially mom-n-pop stores. Look online for better deals.
2) Digging your heels in on either purchasing exclusively NVIDIA or ATI will never benefit you in terms of getting the best bang for the buck. Both companies make outstanding video chips, so why limit yourself? Keep your options open.
3) Personally, I wouldn't buy a 7800GTX 256 for more than $400US right now. I know they are generally going for more, but they are pretty much at the end of their lifecycle at this point with last month's release of the X1900's and the imminent release of the 7900's.

Actually I meant the 256 MEG, 7800 GTX. I am in Canada also. The current prices at local dealers here in Ottawa if I do my homework are actually and generally better than anything I can find online (once I factor in shipping or crap border costs or exchange rates or retarded custums charges or brokerage fees).

Locally I find 7800 GTC 256 for lower than $600 (on Ebay a local seller had them for $430 Canadian and now all are $500 or more), and online at any of the popular Canadian online stores it's actually higher. The cheapest X1900 (or heck X1800) I've found online is $617 (canadian). I realize the X1900 is a better card however again I was worried about massive noise/heat wheras I knew I could "control" it with a 7800 GTX and a nsinencer which is just sitting here waiting for it. All good points though.
