7800GS benchmark results

How does the 7800gs perform compared to the 7900gt (or whatever is the most equivalent PCI-e video card). I'm curious to know if there's any performance difference in the use of AGP vs PCI-e. I remember when PCI-e first came out there was pretty much no perf. gain over AGP, only that the faster cards were coming out for PCI-e, and not AGP.

3DMARK06 is the first one from Madonion/futuremark to account CPU score into the actual marks, so yes the CPU is quite important

Wrong, 3DMark 2001 Incorporated CPU speed into the actual benchmarks, if anything, '06 is just a rehash of what 3Dmark 2001 was since '03, and '05 were basically GPU limited only, even in the CPU scores :laugh:

I could certainly adjust it to performance, but wouldn't that degrade the image quality a bit? Or is there no difference?

Yes, it will affect the IQ. Especially on mip maps lol . But in a price of little peformance gain...are you just happy with the card overall with all the games you played ?

That's why I thought it would be best to leave the setting at quality: that's how I'm going to play games. I haven't tried any yet because I wanted to make sure that the 7800GS was running properly. It's the only reason I ran 3dMark 06. I will try a couple of FPSs shortly. From what people are saying, it looks like the numbers are normal. I'll try it at performance to see if there is a noticeable gain.

For regular games, should I set it to Best Quality or just Quality?

I would set at quality IMO

As i showed recently here, there is effectively NO benefit to dropping below Q in terms of FPS. The big change comes between HQ and Q, and that can be very significant, but Q makes me want to gouge my eyes out, so HQ it is for me...
