So you changed your setting from the control pannel. I never thought about that i might try that also and see if that makes any more difference.

Hmmm, maybe not tho... Cause if I overclock the cpu/ram, 3dmark05 dosent change at all, but if I overclock the vid card it changes significantly. So i would assume my system is limited my the video card at this point...

3dmark05 is only an evaluation of the video scores. There's a seperate CPU score but it doesnt count it. Would you mind linking your ORB score? Might be able to possible help, becaues that score is pretty low =/

Of course. The High Performance preset is there for easy benchmarking.

What's the problem? Change the control panel to High Performance and run it yourself.

Changing driver settings from all HQ to all low Q (with AA/AF off) affects the score in my experience by 10% or so.

With Stock Cooler

6808 @ 400/1000 (Stock)
7930 @ 488/1170

With NV Silencer 5 rev.3

8120 @ 500/1250

Used High Pewrformance on the latter also tightened RAM timings to 2-2-2-6 (from 2.5-3-3-6)

hey, i got nibitor and edited the BIOS to have a geometric clock of 15mhz. My card cant handle anything more than 460mhz in hot weather, so i want to play it safe.

how do i flash the card though? i dont have a floppy drive, but i can make a bootable drive with my USB drive.

Download nvflash and extract nvflash.exe and cwsdpmi.exe to your bootable USB drive. Put your BIOS file on there too. Boot to the USB drive and type the following command:

nvflash -4 -5 -6 yourbiosname.rom

and hit Enter.

i figired out how to do it using the non-FDD BIOS on the EVGA boards. I just put the files on the USB drive, booted from the drive and typed in "runme" and it worked like a charm.

i modified the Rev2 BIOS with a 15mhz geometric clock (not much but 460mhz is all my GPU can handle i HOT weather so i set it to a safe number).

im tempted to modify the BIOS again and set the Mem to 1200mhz (my card can handle it)... you thnik i should?

If anyone is looking for a good stability test to see if the delta is stable on your GT, I found a surprising good one and it's not 3DMark05. In Madden 2006 Franchise Mode, under the Local News pages that look like newspaper articles, the color "photo" in the middle of the article always artifacts on me if my core is being pushed too far with the delta. It looks like the "photo" is actually rendered with the game engine, so it's very easy to check it for artifacts because it's not moving. Something as small as a flicker on an elbow is very easy to see if you examine it well. Each team has a news page, so there are 32 still-shots to examine for artifacts. I usually see a problem after the second or third page. I ended up getting rid of my custom 30 Mhz delta and now I can overclock farther anyway.

3DMark05 remains an excellent test for the video memory though. The battle scene with the robots kills my memory almost immediately if it's overclocked too far.

You're linking to your personal ORB result page, not the published public page. Here's the correct link.

You hit it on the head; 3DMark 05 while a great benchmark, in it's public free form, is more of a high graphics application than anything else for the newer generation of cards. The limitation is in the fact that unless you buy the pro version, you won't be able to run beyond 1024x768, which as anyone knows is really a prohibitive resolution to the newer 7800s. I find that memory clock speeds make more a difference at these lower resolution that actualy GPU. Ultimately, it would be best to run at 1600x1200 at least to see real comparative benchmarks, but hell it's still fun to run and compare different drivers, computers, etc.

I've just set up a new system with Gigabyte 7800GT and the 3dmark05 score I get is as low as 6822. My system specs are in the signature. I have installed the latest nVidia drivers.

Can't remember which mode I used in 3dMark05, I just used whatever was there by default, but I think it was in 1024x768.

ST

Could you specify what did you mean by
1024x768, which as anyone knows is really a prohibitive resolution to the newer 7800s
?

One more question. My card runs at 45C when idle and about 50-55C under stress (stock speeds). Is that fine?
