Download CPUID and check your CPU/RAM speeds. This program will tell you through Windows if your RAM is 128bit and other things. Are you running 3DMark05 at defualt settings 1024x768? Something's not right here. Have you tried clearing your CMOS on the mobo. Is this your 1st build? Run some more benches. You should get around 15,XXX in 3DMark03 @ defualt.

OK installed that - memory is dual channel, frequency 201mhz (PC3200), cas latency 3. All default settings for 3dmark 05, will try 03 now.
No I've been building computers for years so thought I knew a thing or 2 about them, but then weird things like this happen and I begin to doubt I've even got the basics right (like installing the ram dual channel!).

Edit: Ran 3dmark 03 - score of 11,000. Seems pretty weak.

The drivers detect 490/1.18 as being the optimal (I have tried to raise clock higher, but I get artifacts) 7677 3DMarks is the result. I would very much like to reach 8000. However my Winchester is an CBBID and due to the fact that MSI has not yet released a bios that allows the board to post with a HT higher than 219 (known as the 219 bug), overclocking is a bit messy. So I have not overclocked my CPU yet.

EVGA N518

500 / 1100 . I can do 515 and it will "test", however it artifacts playing games.

Stock HSF, tops out about 60* under load.

If it hasnt been mentioned already, the new version of speedfan works.

No, I just OC the 3D clock. eVGA's bios doesn't have seperate 2D/3D clocks on their 7800GT's.
...well, they started to, but released a bios update to clock them together.
the newer BIOS's for the EVGA 7800 GT's still have seperate clocks... the only thing EVGA did was set the 2 clocks the same at stock. If you overclock the 3D clock, the 2D clock wont automatically sync with the 3D clock.

with the old BIOS, the 2D clock was 275 and the 3D clock was 445 (+40). EVGA found that having the 2D and 3D clocks the same is more stable. this is why i overclock both the 2D and 3D clocks the same.

If I set nibitor to one performance level when redo a bios, does that make the 2d and 3d equal?

Thanks.

hmm, i dont think so. i just checked the EVGA 7800 GT Rev.2 BIOS and there is only the 3D clock, but when i overclock the 3D clock, it doesnt change the 2D clock (in coolbits anyway).

i guess you have to set both clocks manually. you dont really have to overclock the 2D and 3D, but if you experience any instability, try syncing the 2 clocks. It doesnt hurt to sync the clocks anyway though.

My eVGA 7800GT (the 515 model), stock cooling: 500/1190. Tests at 509, but isnt stable. The fan on this thing is pretty quiet so far.

OOPS, I typoed! Obviously I meant 1190, not 1900. LOL. That'd be tolerable, eh? (edited original post)

I run my eVGA n518 7800GT at:

Core -> 485
Memory -> 1201

No artifacting, no lockups, and never break's 65C even after playing FEAR and CoD2 for hours...

I'll be getting two 516s tommorrow and hope for a 500/1200 oc. I have used Riva in the past, but will try coolbits.

Sorry, I was just replying to the overall subject of the thread, not specifically to your post.

What are the rest of your system specs? Is your proc oced? What are the image setting at in your Nvidia control panel? We need a few more details and than maybe we can help.

With one of my cards at stock (450/1050) on a 3000+ I got ~7300 in 3DMark05, so your score doesn't seem too far off.

I wouldn't RMA is quite so fast. Did you use Driver Cleaner Pro when you switched from your old video card or is this a fresh install? Is your processor overclocked? Your score actually doesn't sound that bad. Most stock cards are scoring around 6800 in 3DMark05.

There's a whole grip of people on the ORB that have similiar specs to you and are getting about the same score. There is always going to be a little variability. The scores you saw that were near 8000 were probably running higher clocks on the card or an X2 proc. The dual core procs generally score higher in 3DMark05.

Edit: Oops, looks like the link probably won't work for you. Just do a search on the ORB for a system with your approximate specs and you'll see some similiar scores.
