i myself would overclock, but my brother wont, hes not as computer savvy as me. he knows a few things, but overclocking is probably beyond him.

i seem most XT's match XTX speeds anyhow. ill probably set it to that and leave it.

you probably won't see speed increase..here
most likely some speed decrease..
but IQ is usually better on ATI cards.. IMO.

The regular old XT will be much cheaper than the XTX, and the performance difference would negligible. I'd recommend that instead of the XTX. If you wind up feeling bad later, you could always give it a slight overclock to XTX speeds and leave it be aftwards.

well really its basically to free up a little space inside, plus he's used to ATi control panel n stuff. a side step in performance is fine by me, thats plenty of power right there, it'll almost certainly be fine by my brother....hes using a 9500pro right now.

Otis, I'm about ot go from the 7800gt oc sli set-up to a 1900xt myself. I can't get a good feel for what drivers folks seem to prefer though. I choose the 1900xt because it's a good deal cheaper than the xtx. Good luck.

It depends on your games and resolutions.

For BF2, Oblivion, etc the XTX is far superior, open Gl games not so much `

generally, better memory

well may plug for a XT then, its really not gonna make a whole world of difference at 1280x1024 is it.

at that res I'd probably go XT unless you dont mind the extra 50-70 bucks

well im probably not going to buy new straight away. trawling ebay atm, and ive found a Gigabyte X1900XTX which the owner has added extra heatsinks to (the mosfet thingy's near the shrouds entrance on the back of the card) it doesnt look like its got the retail box or anything, but i dont mind about that. if i can bag this 1 month old card for £200-£220 thats a steal n a half

(new XTX's are £350)

found a good selection of XT's also, so ive got plenty of options. and hopefully with the money saved, i can replace the stock cooler if i deem it necessary

i dont think im ever gonna buy new again, theres too much value to be had on nearly new
