I've been pretty happy with my 7800gtx, now Oced at 474/1350, but it impressed me quite a bit tonight when I turned on super-sampling transparency anti-aliasing in:

Battlefield 2

1680x1050 resolution
All settings ultra_high except dynamic shadows
2x AA

On a non-laggy server it still maxes out at 99.9fps for the entire game (95% of it) which means its probably getting at least 110fps if BF2 didnt have the 99fps cap.

For that resolution and those settings, without mature drivers and more performance boost and OC to come, it was pretty impressive. Now to see how it stacks up against R520 and Loast Coast.

Also benchmarked HL2 Kanal level at 140FPS! at:

1680x1050, 16AF, 4AA, all settings high, multi-sampling TAA

I hope another 10%+ boost from driver maturation, 10% more w/ custom cooler and I should be good.

Ya I'm really hoping the dual core optimized drivers provide like a 5-10% boost, that'd be awesome

Did you REALLY think you'd be dissappointed with a 7800GTX, cuz I don't see how that's possible ?

No but for 600 bucks I do want it to chew through virtually everything with no problem and not just at the minimal 60fps for today's games either

Yeah, I hear ya. That's why there's reviews . So you can see what the performance is like before you buy . Great card IMO. Though I wish NVIDIA would rethink their position on AGP. I got bit in the a$$ HARD with my nForce3\AGP. That actually pisses me off more than anything :| .

Oh I know I've had mine for few months now. The AGP thing does suck, maybe ATI will help out.

I'm really looking forward to the holiday season to see some newer games to test this rig out on... now if only lost coast would get here

I'm deifinitely excited for Lost Coast. And DOD:S. Man, I sure wish they'd hurry up

Methinks that if ATi does do AGP with R520, NVIDIA will respond with something in AGP as well. I think this is the first time I'm actually rooting for ATi .

Yes the GTX is impressive.

I have serious doubts that your frames are 99 for 95% of the time. I call shens. Especially since no reviews back this up.

The fastest video card ever released, often matching the previous generation's top card in SLI by itself is actually fairly impressive??? Colour me surprised!

This wouldn't happen to be a brag & moan thread now would it?

Dont count on it. The 7800 archtecture is not much different from the 6800, so if the drivers are still not mature enough, NV should fire all their driver developers.

You wont see much from drivers, the architechture is a rehash of the 6000 series.

I assure you they are. If you'd like me to prove it and have a method of doing so let me know. And what are shens? Shenannigans or something lol

Maybe, maybe not. On some other forums like xtremeoverclocking people were saying that while it doesnt hit 10k in 3dMark05 now it will get closer w/ 5 or so generations of drivers. Plus the dual core optimization, 10% is pretty plausible I think.

btw, note the variances in most reviews, and remember I am not using FRAPs which slows things down, my pc is extremely optimized (see PCMark 05 score below and if you dont believe me on that check #24 on ORB), and I also use 2xAA instead of 4xAA and no dynamic shadowing mainly because there is no visible difference.

It doesn't make sense to release the 7800GTX on the AGP platform.
AGP at the moment is good for making a budget / midstream computer system.
If nvidia are going to release any more AGP cards I dont think it will be 7800GTX,GT,ULTRA
However being a budget buyer myself always looking at bang for buck I do use a gigabyte k8t800pro mobo which ia AGP. I currently run a 6600GT in it as it is bang for buck.
It makes more sense for nvidia to release there next bang for buck product on the AGP platform as well as PCIe. I think if they do it will be the 7600 which is released on AGP.

The dual core optomization will help, but the beta drivers claiming the gains show 0-1% across the board. Hopefully a newer release will show the gains they were originally touting.

5 generations of drivers? maybe its REFRESH will hit 10k by then

Yeah it only has totally different shaders and Z culling, but the drivers probably don't have to work with that stuff, right Munky?

LOL

6800 and 7800 are two different beasts. The 6800 owners just like to say that to justify not purchasing a 7800 series...
