Im pleased this is some good stuff. Can someone post screenys of this monster, Plus some photos of the card itself?

I love new technology and im happy the company has delivered the goods. What ATi has up its sleeve should be intresting.

That's 32% better than the x850 XTPE, not too bad...

ROFL!!!!1

SH*T... if ATI had done this today everyone would be creaming on their CRT/LCDs so quite acting like it aint a big deal.

And if it isnt a big deal to you, you are in the wrong thread, wrong forum, wrong site.

Don't think a 12 year old, more likely one of the regulars having some fun being Mister Hyde. Anyways this is one nice card and Nvidia fanboys should have their chance to gloat. Shader days was a bitter pill for that club and it's pay back time. :music:

Any way you wanna spin it, its still just 8.3 FPS in its most taxing state. That says alot about scalability to me, and considering its a touch up of NV40 then I am not guessing we will see large changes after driver tweaks, I am sure some, but not as extreme as say a whole new design. Then again we could see huge changes, only the future will tell for sure.

last year ati had 55 percent of the market share while nvidia had 41 percent

i dont think the 6800 series raped ati THAT badly, plus as someone said, the xt pe outperforms the ultra

sux0rs on ati's part about being possibly a month late tho...nvidia is the card to get for this month or whatever

Holy crap. What's wrong with you people?
The first half of his post was factually true. The NV40 may not have been a "blowout" but the 6600GT definitely dominated the midrange where all the money is made.
Plus, it's an awesome new video card. I'm not buying another card for at least 1.5 years, and I'm excited. I mean, it's huge! Playing games at 2048*1536 AA/AF!?!
Plus the fact that anybody who can afford a $600 card is likely to buy this one and then get r520 if it's even better, I'd say nVidia's got a great day and you should let him rejoice.

Exacty. My plan is to dump the GTX if the ATi is better.

needless to say I am very, very impressed with this part.

Cool, quiet, SINGLE SLOT, draws LESS power than a 6800 Ultra and is as fast or faster than 6800Ultra SLI.

Yeah, and its available.. bye bye ATI.

I'm sorry, but NV40 was a blowout round for Nvidia and this is even more of a blowout.

I cant imagine the 32pipe card ready for R520 (if it ever even gets here).

Come up with all the excuses you want to hate on Nvidia and their new card, but this card is AMAZING and quiet to boot!
But all arguments are moot because SLI is available TODAY, and the 7800 is for sale TODAY and is the new King after the Geforce6.

I give the luck of the Irish to ATI.. they need it.

You're forgetting the part where a great portion of the people on these boards (and even larger percentage of the average population) can only display (or comfortably display) their monitors at 1600x1200 or less. At that resolution, they can keep their current cards (assuming they've got a 6800/x800), or upgrade to one very cheaply. This 7800GTX is so CPU limited at 16x12 that only 8xAA/16xAF helps it pull away from previous gen cards. You're making this card sound like the end all be all wonder card. It's not. This is for the serious gamer who wants to play at high res, and for that job, it is indeed the best.

No, its not just 8.3 FPS, its 30 percent better which is good... A card that can do 300 FPS in a game, and another card that can do 330 FPS, its only a 10% difference, which is nothing even if it really is a 30 fps difference. They should've added minimum FPS IMO...

I just hope there are shader intensive games coming out ASAP. One 50 dollar game named "Battle Field 2" is not going to sell me on a 600 dollar video card.

While I agree that the GeForce 7800 line seems sickeningly well engineered, all this talk about the end for ATi is hogwash. High end hardly constitutes a large part of the market.

I think Nvidia's biggest win with this card will be getting back some of the mindshare they lost with NV30. I mean, it's hard to argue with the pro list:

- Great performance
- Great image quality
- Low Power Consumption (The Inquirer can stick that in its pipe and smoke it)
- Single Slot
- Cool Running
- Widely available from day 1

cons:
- Price, and that's about it.

That said, if ATi comes along in 6 months and does the same thing, I see no reason why they wouldn't still be very much in the fight.

Time will tell, I suppose. But no matter how you slice it, ATi will have to answer extremely well not to lose some support. This launch *was* a grand slam for Nvidia, but a grand slam doesn't mean the game is over.

It's less than the high end cards that came before it, and GOBS less than most CPUs. I really see no reason to complain.
