I actually have about $550 just sitting in a drawer that I haven't deposited yet. So temping, but I really need to wait and see what ATi does, or if price drop before ATi can get their act together.

Not to mention I would need to upgrade from AGP.

If there is no "mid-range" card planned, I would be selling shares in Nvidia at market open if I had any. To alienate consumers that are the bread and butter of the company is a great way to f up your earnings.

I cant seem to fathom how some of you'll dont feel that nvidia has won this initial round. ATI has not even managed to get their Crossfire boards to market, neither have they been able to get their master/slave cards out.
The R520 may be a higher performing card than the 7800GTX but it would be useless if it is only paper launched. This is some major pawnage at the moment by Nvidia.

Woopie and we are the ones paying the freight. Think if they both released a card Nvidia would be selling th non ultra version at the current price?

yeah, it would be nice to see something from ati. hell drop the prices of the 850xtpes or something. give it some appeal because at 500+ for a 850xtpe or 600 for a 7800gtx it won't really be consideration.

Come on...like this is a question of not having enough money to get it? Maybe he just recognizes it is insane to spend that much on a video card that will depreciate quite quickly.

The problem is that it's not insane. If you have an "adult" hobby (e.g. golfing, tennis club membership, boating, flying, etc) you blow more than $600 a year with nothing to show for it.

If you buy this card, you have a usable video card for a year or two.

I was just pointing out that he is justifying his decision not to buy, not putting forth a rational argument of the "insanity".

Perhaps not for you, Rollo, but not all of us have "adult" hobbies. Even on an enthusiast forum like this I don't think that many people will purchase one; for $600 better to buy a 6800 GT and an xbox 360 IMO.

The simple fact is that its not even close to a mainstream part.

Don't think a 12 year old, more likely one of the regulars having some fun being Mister Hyde. Anyways this is one nice card and Nvidia fanboys should have their chance to gloat. Shader days was a bitter pill for that club and it's pay back time. :music:
I'm still looking forward to buying a 6800gt as I can't imagine the price on a g70 or r520 (or the mid range versions) dropping to undre $300 (my buying limit). I'm content with my 9800 for now.

Oh and what's up with all the fanboism? I can't believe there are people in here who would actually argue against a card based solely on who made it...I always buy the best I see at the moment I have the cash in my hand, so to speak

Any way you wanna spin it, its still just 8.3 FPS in its most taxing state.

Which is roughly 30% higher performance with roughly 30% higher price. I wouldn't say that is the most taxing either, BF2 is showing 22.2FPS for the X850XTPE with the 7800 pushing 34.3FPS(54.5% rift). It would be sweet to see them compare CoR running SM 2.0++ or SC running SM 3.0 with HDR to the X850XTPE to see how the shader performance stacks up, but I guess we'll have to wait for the R520 to see that done.

I think that we are starting to get to the point where we have reasonable shader performance out of the latest hardware, we may see some reasonable utilization of shaders within the next year or so if things continue on this trend.

Anti Fanboism squad coming in:

To OP:
While GeForce 7800GTX is impressing, why all the bashing to ATi when ATi's R520 is not even out yet?

No, it's not a mainstream part, and I don't think anyone has ever claimed it was. Right now this is the absolutely fastest single video card available. What would ever make you think it was supposed to be mainstream?

Sorry, no simple facts allowed in here.
I guess you won't be joining the thousands of people who have undoubltedly already purchased their 7800GTX then? I won't be either. But If I had the cash availble to me right now, of course I would. I don't understand why when people do not have the cash to do something, berate it.?>? That's just nasty jealousy towards people who can afford it. I can't afford one of these right now, but that may change whenever. Am I bitter? Hell no. Why should I be? And whats your issue with this Zendari?

It was my (faulty) assumption that it would follow a $400 pricepoint like the previous GT card.

I'm not bitter or jealous either. Just stating my opinion on the card, nothing more. Kudos to anyone who has it.

being honest, i'd say buy the card that supports the games you play the most....so if ur a source freak then buy ATi, if your an nVidia stable freak then buy nVidia.....simple.....

this new card tho says ya boo sucks to you to most cards, if i had the money available i'd buy it...lol.....not sure if it would be wasted on my 3ghz P4, but it would be nice to turn up all the cexy options and enjoy.....i'd still be losing frames to physics on Chateau on CS:S tho...lol

atm however im thinking of waiting a month till the initial high price to ensnare the 'its the best i must have it gimme gimme gimme' people has dropped a little, then i should be able to pick up a 6800 Ultra or X850XT PE reasonably cheap....heh

it is nice to see this card available in good quantity tho, i remember browsing around when the 6800 and X800/850 cards were released, you couldnt bloody buy them, most stockists had 'on order' signs up on their sites...lol

im sure ATi will double their efforts and get a card out by the end of summer, but will it scorch this one? ooohhh gonna be interesting, but if it aint available to buy with ease, then i would say nVdidia will definitely have this one in the bag.....who knows tho ;-)

Its capitalism. They are controlling the market for high end now, alone.

Yeah, this is a midrange part (or high-mid like the 6800GT), but they can sit on their laurels for a long time now with ATI having production problems... and possibly not even a fast card. It doesnt matter, its not even paper launched and availability prob wont beat this.

Its all about getting cards in peoples hands, not who has the incrementally faster card.

This thing is built for high resolutions though, its sick how badly it kills last gen SLI at high res.

I couldnt have said it better myself.

Sometimes I wonder how many here are over the age of 18 and have jobs. It is really NOT that much money I'm SORRY TO BREAK IT TO YOU GUYS.

If you are here, your primary concern shouldnt be pinching pennies, but computer hardware.

Ok fine, point taken. However, some people, myself included, are interested in and keep up to date on computer hardware to avoid getting what they perceive as ripped off. It's a question of, to use the old phrase, best bang for the buck.

I'd rather put my hard earned cash into a $300 card than into one twice the price that doesn't provide close to twice the performance. Some like to chase technology, some like to find the best bang, both are equally valid options and require research (though it could be argued that it takes more effort to work out the best bang than it does to just buy the newest and most expensive hardware).
