$600 for 256MB of memory? That's pushing it.

And I'm somewhat disappointed to see LeadTek using a reference cooler.

if the price doesn't shoot up 100 dollars in the next 20 mins it'd lead me to believe that they actually launched with plenty of stock

Agreed its still way to much and I'd never buy them for that price but if 599 is MSRP then it is truly a first in the video card industry.

Please talk me out of one of these...I know they don;t perform too much better than my X800XL, but new, shiny technology that is in stock makes me want to use my Amex....

Well it was predicted at about 600 on release so Newegg's a bit cheaper

ahha no kidding... If I had a PCI-Express system I would be tempted but I don't so I don't think they will be getting my money for awhile. Unless of course somone offered me money for my system.. But I really don't feel like seting up a FS:FT thread lol.

This is usually the case with the first batch of nVidia cards.

Agreed, I think I can hold on for a while. I would like to see what ATi launches, especially different price points. It would be nice to get a X900XL for $350 that performs close to the GTX. I guess we'll see, as it looks like nVidia has a good amount of these in production and available, meaning prices will only come down.

Uh, almost everyone's cards get gouged out the gates, but these are probably MSRP, and it's a bit high.

And don't even act like such is an Nvidia-only issue. ATi is just as guilty.

I agree but I bet Leadtek lost money with the 6800 series due to poor sales. Non-reference design probably hurt their sales even though it costed them more.

Good card or bad card we'll find out from Anand tomorrow but damn, congrats to nVidia for the first real launch we've seen in a long time. Last gen's paper launch backlash really must've sunk in, and not a moment too soon.

I see no reason to upgrade from current gen right now. If you have a 16 pipe card, they are slamming current games in the face. I have a 6600GT, specifically because when I bought it this January to replace my Ti 4400, I was planning on discarding it after 12 months to be replaced by G70/R520, so I didn't want to spend too much dollars. I didn't go high end in the current gen for a reason - I didn't want to pay a premium for performance that would be outdated in a few months.

I'll probably be picking up a 7800GTX around the end of the year, but hey, R520 may surprise us...

Source?

I have a LeadTek card in my machine now, the primary reason I bought it being their excellent marks for quality.

I'll be skipping this generation. I had 6800nu, 6800GT, and 6800Ultra this past gen but this new gen just doesn't interest me price or performance wise.

Just buy a X800 CrossFire Edition for $250-ish, and you'll score about ~9k in 3DMark05. So far reports are saying a pair of 7800GTX in SLI will score about ~11.5k. You can decide if it's worth the extra 3DMarks for over double the cost.

...I meant the ref cooler... Usually the first batch are built straight to nV specs, and they get creative as time goes by.

The price doesn't surprise me. Can you get performance similar to a 7800GTX for $599? I'd have to say not, but then again, there aren't many benchmarks/reviews out there to go by that I'd trust to prove this.

Pulled out of my a$$. It's just my hunch. I also have LeadTek card in my primary machine now. Unlocked 6800nu card I bought about 2 weeks ago. Very impressive cooling and came with two good games. Solid copper heatsink is awesome and must cost them plenty.

I see $649.99

I bet if you get a strong enough CPU, you'll get some amazing results.. but it's gonna hurt to pocket to achieve such results. Benchmarks toommorrow will determine all. If an FX-57 paired with a 7800GTX doesn't give impressive game results then I'm just going to wait until next year to even think about a GPU update. 9800Pro will last a bit longer.
