First off, hello from the new guy. Been reading, decided to join.
I recently got into tweaking my cpu after buying an HP1230n and have been enjoying playing online.
Anyhow, those 3dMark scores sure makes a fella think. And have been considering getting a new gpu and decided on a 7800gt.
then I thought, the real glaring weak link in my system is having an HP proprietary ASUS AmberineM mobo, all being cramp in a miniATX HP box, and my memory is not the lowest latency pieces.
then I started thinking. Would I be better off getting an SLi capable mobo like a DFI LP. And some quality, low latency memory (muskin, corsair xms). That way I can fool around a little with OC'ing my AMD3700, slap everything I had in my HP in a nice Lian Li box.
And save up my money for this years newer cards when they come out later this year instead of putting all my money on what's soon to be old tech (7800 cards). And just run the 6600gt card for this year?
Here's my set up...
HP a1230n
AMD3700+ Sandiego @2.2
Asus AmberineM mobo skt939
6600gt @560/1200
Audigy ZS
2 gigs Corsair 4x512 ValueRam
200 gig SATA/150 Seagate Cuda
CD/rom & DVD/RW Lightscribe x16 DL
Antec TP2 480w
Again, I'm setting this machine up for gaming.
Or is this money just burning a hole in my pocket?
Input is very much appreciated. Hope I'm not asking too much for my first post.
