Ive been gone for a few days, I come back, and all the GTX cards have dropped in price by at least thirty bucks. Whats the deal? Ultra on the way? Increased supply?
The shock and awe of the launch has subsided and they need more than hype to sell the cards. There was probably a drop in demand because all of the people that were going to buy at $600 have already bought and you're left with the people that are\were waiting for the price to drop.

That is probably part of it. I think the biggest factor has been the fact that plentiful supply opens up the market to retail competition. Nvidia probably set MSRP higher than the expected equilibrium price to eek out extra profit from the early adopters. I don't think they woud expect to flood the market with GTX's and maintain such a high selling price. They are probably quite happy to ship volumes of GTX's at $550 since it's cheaper to produce than NV40 - think I saw somewhere that they were getting the same number of G70's per wafer as they got with NV40.
