7800GTX SLI obtained, launch party was a blast!

PLEEEEEEASE can you do some 1280x1024 tests with 8xAA and 16xAF on with various games (UT2k4 especially if you have it), and possibly compared to 6800's with the same.
I'm going to get probably dual 17" screens when I upgrade, so if a 7800 can do ultra quality at that res, onlt then might it be worth it, since current gen can do 4xAA at that res without too much trouble.

Oh Did I mention that PS3 will do 2X 1920x1080p, it supports 2 DVI outputs at that resolution.

why must people come and pollute a thread with such nonsense as above (Beiruty). Here is something for you to chew on Beiruty, is the PS3 or better yet the RSX released at this present moment? In a years (a year is a fair time frame for the PS3) time how much do you think GPU technology will advance? Just toss out some theoritical numbers. Do you honestly see the RSX working in tandem with Cells as the end all technology? The RSX is going to be based on what? 90nm, .65nm at best with 300+ million tranny's, correct? More powerful then 2 6800 Ultras in SLi right? Well the 7800GTX is already ahead of 2 6800ultras while on a 110nm base with 300+ million tranny's, I'd say technology is catching up pretty quickly to RSX and PS3. I am a fan of Sony and there technology (especially the Cell) products albeit some lack quality these days but when you blurt out ignorance and crap on a thread and waste other peoples time its very annoying man. Think for just a second, before you type/talk.

*edit* In addition, I don't ever recall NV or Sony for that matter releasing any price points for the PS3. So your $300 statement is actually worth nothing. Sorry for the rant fellas...

James.... I know what you are saying, but there is no ignorance in what I stated. I just wanted to raise a point that PC gaming is way expensive and does mot make sense... the next generation consoles will fix that. It is true that by next year we may see PC cards with 2x performance of today's cards. However, the console will cost 10% of full gaming rig, assuming the price of such a rig will be drop by 50% by next year. PS3 will cost just 20%....

Also one has to note that there is no need to upgrade if you have an X800XL+ plus performance and you have a 19" LCD... The PC games software is not scalable (geometry wise) enough so that will take advantage of the more powerful cards at the same resolution.

I've run one bench, Doom 3, 16X12 4X8X, 83.3fps. Anand got 86, so I'm on the right track and will try to give you guys some settings the review sites don't. (like 19X14 8X16X, etc, so you'll have some reason to read mine as well)

ok there is ignorance, while it may be unintentional it is still blaring to me. When you came into this thread touting the PS3 RSX when its not even released and without any hands-on experience is a great example of ignorance. By the time PS3 is released, there will be a card that surpasses it and I am confident that it will not be a $600 solution or your approximations. Rather that card will probably be what the 6800gt is today, when compared to the 7800GTX. Now you are forgetting that when you build a PC it is not meant entirely for gaming. I know that the PS3 won't be for just gaming but I can once again state with confidence that you will not be able to edit/create on the PS3 with freedom as a PC. Also factor into your dream, the cost of TV sets capable of 1080p will set you back atleast $2,000 each, and I'm being conservative there. Without a 1080p set(s), I don't see much use for the dual HDMI that the PS3 or the HD inputs the 360 will have. I have no doubt that the PS3 will be awesome but you came into this thread spewing ignorance and it got on my nerves a bit. I apologize to everyone for wasting there time with this rant again.

Yes. You'll have to wait a bit on the 6800s though, I need to upgrade my son to SLI. I'm planning on making his rig a A64 3400+/6800GT SLI setup so I can compare benches of the 6800GT SLI and 6600GT SLI on that to the 7800s as needed.

Really? I was unaware a X800XL can run games like Doom3, Far Cry, Riddick, Splinter Cell CT, or Far Cry at 12X10 6X16X in quality mode acceptably?

Or run HDR in Far Cry and and Splinter Cell at all?

Or soft shadows in Riddick?

No to mention transparency anti-aliasing, 16X AA?

I'm also guessing a X800XL will run Prey, Q4, and Wolf 2, all out this year I believe, very poorly.

I have some beach front property in Montana I have for sale.

It is always amazing to see people that believe every single piece of marketing material that a company puts out. I bet you were so happy when you heard that the PS2 was going to have games with Toy Story caliber graphics only to be let down when you got home and played the games. I bet you actually think that the demos at E3 were all running on PS3's.

I will admit I was drawn into Sony's smoke and mirrors with the PS2 but they can't fool me twice.

Believe Sony if you want but just like the Easter Bunny and the Tooth fairy I see Sony's marketing for what it is, a tool to make people believe one thing when truth is totally different.
