7800GTX temperatures

My apologies in resurrecting this post *again*. My mate's 7800GTX idles at 33ºC in a very similar setup while mine idles at 44ºC. Is there something I should be worried about, or something he should be worried about? Hardware and cooling wise, we're pretty much using the same, only difference is that he's using 77.50 drivers while I'm using 79.11 drivers, and my CPU is overclocked. If anything, I would have thought mine would be cooler as my CPU is watercooled. His motherboard temperatures idle at 28ºC while mine sits at 34ºC. A fair bit of difference I must say.

PS. We have identical mobos, RAM, PSU.

Any opinions?

Just a suggestion here but you can always call a local industrial hose retailer and get an adaptor. They are usually pretty cheap. Then you have the flexability to use whatever you wish.

I am adding double shut off quick disconnects to mine so I can easily dismantle it and take it on the road without the fear of spillage.

my 7800GTX with the stock cooling was 56C idle and 76C under load.

with the 70m fan mod it brought my idle temp to 45C and my load temp to 59-60C

My EVGA 7800GTX KO (490 / 1300 stock speed) idles 49C and 75C under load.

Wow interesting that most 7800GTX users idle at 45ºC thereabouts, how is it that my mate's 7800GTX idles at 32ºC, amazing. Plus the fact that his rig has no aftermarket cooling watsover, all CPU/CASE fans are stock. In any event, what's the usual overclock that 7800GTX users see without going for an aftermarket cooler? I'm current sitting on 490/1.30 for my ASUS E7800GTX. Haven't dared to push higher than that for fear of killing a AU$1,000 video card! (I bought when it first came out in Australia... )

Yeah when I saw his temperature reading in the NVIDIA control panel, I was amazed as well. This was especially so as it was 4pm in the afternoon when I looked, ambient temperature was about 23ºC. I know for a fact he doesn't use any aftermarket cooling as I helped put together his rig. The main difference between his rig and mine, is our CPU and case. He's using a P4 3.2 1mb cache (OC to 3.57) and Antec P180 case, while I'm using a P4 3.4 2mb cache (OC to 3.6) and a Thermaltake Armor case. I would have thought my overall temps would be cooler as my CPU is watercooled, and my case is *theoretically* better ventilated. But damn, 28ºC mobo and 32ºC 7800GTX at idle... his CPU though, was idling at 44ºC while mine idles at 39ºC.

Yep, I was gonna get him to do that, but alas that lazy mofo is still sleeping (9.34am) now, I'll get him to do a screen dump and send it to me asap so I can post it up.

Finally someone beats me!!! LOL Mine is 52C and 80C under load I have it OC'd to 490 and 1.3


I am thinking of adding watercooling to the GPU.
