Right now I have a XFX 7800GTX 256mb (Factory overclocked):

...and I have a chance to pick up a EVGA 7950GT 512mb KO Superclocked:

I can get the 7950GT real cheap and its local, so its temping, but I'm not sure its really worth it. I really only game at 1280 res and Im not going to be playing Crysis (dont really like it, to much of a FarCry spinoff )

I already did the Tom's Hardware charts and the 7950GT pretty much beats the 7800GTX in most of the benches...Not by much in a few...

What would you guys do ?

Ditto. What's the total price. FYI you can get about $80 (without shipping) for the 7800GT on ebay.

Total cost is $100

I'll still have my 7800GTX as well that I could make a few bucks off of as well...

1. Upgrading from a high end to a refresh high-end of the same generation generally doesn't make a lot of sense unless you can do it on the cheap. $100 isn't cheap when you can buy HD3850 for only $80 more.

2. Cards like HD3850/70 and 8800GT really make a purchase like 7950GT seem rather pointless because of Performance and feature set (i.e. DX10, hardware accelerated HD content, better image quality, especially anisotropic filtering relative to GF7 series);

3. If the games you currently play are starting to struggle at 1280x1024, then you should upgrade. But make sure it's not other components that limit performance such as 1 gig of ram or a single core processor.

Cheers.

Thanks for the post RussianSensation !

My system as of now is:

Opteron 165 ( at 2700mhz)
2 gigs of Muskin HP
Abit AN-8 Ultra

The only that that troubles me about the newer cards (including the 7950GT) is I lose my VIVO..

If you're having to pay $100 for that 7950 that's not a bad deal at all, but you're not going to see much improvement, either. A 3850 for $80 more or a soon-to-be-released 8800gt for about $80 more would be MUCH better. Sell your 7800gtx and get a good card. Now is the best time to upgrade gpus in 2+years imho.

For $100 don't waste your time ... sit on the cash & save up for an upgrade you'll notice instead.
