For those reading this thread in the future, I've now come to the conclusion that for better HD video, you need either a seperate video card OR if the motherboard has integrated video, then it would be better if that motherboard had sideport memory.
I can't believe I'm quoting my own message. Anyway, I just read on the AVSforum that even integrated video with the 790 chipset AND SidePort memory still has lag (and it disappears with a video card). BTW, I ordered an HD4670.
I have an nForce 8300 and don't get any lag. I use my HTPC for Blu-ray playback and VMC playback of HD tv shows from my OTA ATSC TV tuner. The key for me was disabling C7Q for my Athlon 64 X2 5000+ processor.
Do you mean disabling Cool & Quiet?
EDIT: You know, it may only be my own opinion, but since I found that I didn't really like the video on the Asus M3A78-EM, I decided it may be the last time I choose a motherboard with integrated video. I mean, I'm having some tiny problems with my new machine but part of it is due to all the various drivers I need to install. It's way more confusing than a regular motherboard with no video.
And I learned another thing, heatsinks almost always seem somewhat difficult to take off. I played a video game to get the thermal grease all warm but there was still so much suction that I had to slide the heatsink back and forth until it finally came off. Then I realized after taking off the stock heatsink and replacing it with the Coolermaster GeminiII S, I noticed it's a type of model that you cannot twist and slide like that. Oops! I'm always making hardware mistakes. lol Maybe next time it's going to be a Coolermaster Vortex 752 or Asus V72.
