The Windforce looks awesome to me, personally. Not sure of what the MSRP will be on major e-tailers, but this breaks down not only the "factory" OC numbers, but the manual OC on top of what is provided in the box.

The GTX 780 Ti comes clocked at 875MHz with a boost rate of 928MHz while its memory runs at 7GHz. Gigabyte increased the core to 1020MHz (1085MHz boost) and we pushed that to 1140MHz (1205MHz boost) with the memory raised 200MHz to 7.2GHz. Meanwhile, the standard GTX 780 runs at 863MHz with a boost of 900MHz and Gigabyte increases those figures to 1019MHz and 1071MHz with its GHz Edition card, which we overclocked further to 1120MHz and 1172MHz with a GDDR5 speed of 6.8GHz (all the way from 6GHz).

From the conclusion, it is clear that the price/performance scaling decreases rapidly for the single-GPU king, however. The standard cooler is rather good, I wonder if the extra cost is even necessary? The 290pro seems to be the price/performance benchmark for this 1/2-gen of GPUs, much like 4870 and GTX460 were previously.

Those ratios don't bode particularly well for Nvidia's GTX 780 Ti, which seems like it might find itself in company with the GTX Titan. If you want the fastest single-GPU available, you'll have to pay for it and that's always going to be the case. At the end of the day, we really like the GTX 780 Ti OC and GTX 780 GHz Edition -- especially the latter -- but the reality is that AMD's R9 290 offers similarly rock solid results for $300 less, and that's enough savings to sway our recommendation for now.

Gigabyte Windforce 3x GTX780 Ghz Edition with 1071mhz boost clocks with 3 free games for $510 is probably the best card at the moment among all the 290/290X and 780Tis. Once after-market 290s show up, they should give is a strong run for the money. Right now this factory OC Giga card is making 780Tis and R9 290Xs look bad.

Ya and AMD optimized even run better on Nvidia than AMD example is Bioshock infinite and farcry 3

I don't see how they are comparable. BF4 will be played by millions of gamers for 1-2 years while SC:BL will be finished and put on a shelf forever. Secondly, 55 vs. 66 fps in a slow paced game like SC:BL is not a big deal but it is a big deal in a fast paced shooter. In your example, 780 that costs $100 more is outperforming a $400 R9 290 by only 17%. This isn't exactly "embarrasing" AMD. If you look at the delta in performance between an $800 R9 290 OC vs. GTX780Ti in games outside of BF4, they will still embarrass GTX780 TI OC in many games. If you browse forums over the web, people call $800 R9 290s in CF vs. $700 GTX780Ti a "no brainer", except our forum where the $700 price is defended because NV released a halo card.

No matter how you slice it, soon you'll be able to buy 2 Asus R9 290s for barely more money than an after-market 780Ti and the performance delta between these setups will be vast, and become even greater the more screens you have and the higher the resolution you go. Did you look at HardOCP's comparison of GTX780Ti vs. R9 290X in 4K gaming? 780Ti failed to provide any tangible performance advantage on average.

Gigabyte Windforce Ghz Edition for $510 is enough to know that 780Ti needs to be priced at $599 instead of $699.

780Ti will follow 770 4GB and Titan as one of the most overpriced cards released this generation.

splinter cell is an nvidia enhanced game while bioshock infinite is optimized for both nvidia and amd, of which you can see if you look closely at the start up screens.

It's called cherry picking. People who spend that type of money on a gpu don't play one game. They play many.

True, but Battlefield 4 is the most important benchmark around currently; a game if you are into it you will play continually vs a play once and throw away game.

I saw those benches. My money is on once Mantle comes out that the 290 is faster than any card nvidia has in Battlefield 4, never mind the 290X.


About the OP. All these 780ti cards are reference boards, no upgraded power delivery or custom PCB here. These are all reference boards with custom cooling. I'd pass on these in favour of the reference blower every time.

It's also looking like unfortunately there will be no 6GB VRAM 780ti cards for the forseeable future. Most of those rumours we saw from videocardz about 6GB cards and likely the black edition 780ti were bullcrap. Seems nvidia is being strict about what board partners can do with actual custom PCB design/memory allocation for the 780ti.

Much like we never saw a 6GB 780, we're never going to see a 6GB 780ti.

I'm not denying that, but BF4 is botched right now from what I understand due to EA forcing an early release.

Once Dice gets caught up and Nvidia can optimize for the game better I am sure performance will pick up. Same with the Open Beta. AMD performance will likely get better too though, especially once Mantle gets released.

I'm just not a big fan of benching games that are still in Beta and using them as concrete evidence for performance.
