78C for my X800 Pro, How Bad is that

A few days back i mentioned my Gigabyte X800 runs hot and i cant touch my Rams for Long.

Well, i just downloaded the ATITOOL which is much better than the Gigabyte V-Tuner.

So here is the deal.

My Core and Ram MHz are shown Correct ( Which they didnt with the V-Tuner ).

Secondly i still cant toiuch my Rams.

Thirdly the CORE TEMPERATURES UNDER THE STRESS OF 3DMARK 03 seem to hover <80 &amp; >75.

While under 2D Mode, the temp are somewhere <60 but as soon as stress is applied on the R420, they temperatures go straight upto 70 in no time but then they stabalize at 76C which is actually shown by the ATITOOL.

Surprizingly, Gigabyte say they dont support Hardware Moni. but how come ATITOOL which is just 3 MB large could open so many possibilties.

Any how, 76C, will i last my X800 Pro for as long as i want or if i need to buy a Zalman AM-HP80D.

If not, than what about the Rams, how should i cool my Rams or if i am a bit too soncerned.

That's over 170 degrees F! I would be extremely worried. I recommend the GIANT 3 cooler. Works very well on my X800 Pros. Mine idles at 38-40 C and under load it reached 47 C.

Actually the X800s reportedly run HOT HOT HOT. I've been hearing ~80 C from other people as well. As long as you're not getting artifacts, it should be fine.

If you're not having any trouble with the card because of high temps what's the big deal?

Well, i've got a 5700u, and under the temp. monitor, it says the threshold is 129' C, I think GPU's can run hotter than CPUs, but your temps do seem a little high, try touching the card while the system is running, if it doesn't seem too hot to the touch, it's prolly just faulty temp readings.

According to Arctic Cooling, 80C is about what a 9800 Pro runs at. Given poor cases they have to run in, and run in them with only around 3/8" of height for cooling, I'd be suprised if they can't take high temps well.

Get some SERIOUS case cooling!!!

The card was designed to run that hot though, so don't worry too much about it.

Sounds like Ati needs to start mis-reporting GPU temps like ALL motherboard manufactures mis-report CPU temps :disgust:
