French site.

Essentially, the 7900s are pretty competitive with the X1900s, but of course, get badly owned in F.E.A.R. In other words, no surprises. Now, my decision to make is whether to grab the cheaper and quieter 7900 GTX or the X1900XT(X) that will be a bit more expensive and louder but will deliver much better frame rates in F.E.A.R., pretty much the only significant game that can bring contemporary high end cards to their knees. Well, maybe CoD2 and NfS:MW in high settings can also be considered cardkillers

EDIT: if it's a R E P O S T, pls ignore

Those graphs are about as confusing as all get out. Got to wait for prices, but it looks like the 7900 GTX will cost more than the 1900 XTX. Gotta wait for a better review without all the freaking colors.

Some of the results didn't make sense. For BF2 4xAA and 8xAF in 1600x1200, 7900GT SLI was more than double the FPS than a single 7900GT.

I am at a SHOCK that today is the hard launch date for all 7900 cards but there are NO REVIEWS except from that colour coded confusion du Francaise site.

All of the slipped prices (mwave and monarch) have been $599 and above. Nvidia suggests $499.

I'm just going to take these results with a grain of salt, no offense to the french site but I trust AT, although those results look logical they look almost too predictable.

WTF? 7900 has 278million trannies vs 302million for the 7800? is that correct?

Yup...and it doesnt seem to be a typo either because on the following page they make mention in words comparing the transistor count for both the g70 and g71 again...need more reviews nonetheless

i dont get it though, something big has to of been dropped in order to remove over 20million transisitors

Or the review could be total BS, I doubt nVidia would drop 20 million transistors, considering the die shrink I'd expect them to add more.

Well the 7900GT performs exactly like a slightly overclocked 7800GTX, not that we couldnt have predicted that. The 7900GTX is still slower than a x1900XTX with heavy AA, which also was predictable since the only thing that would fix that was ether new architecture or AA algorithm.

1 - The 7900GTX does have less transistors than the 7800. Nvidia did something called "re-piping", which allowed them to drop transistors.
2 - The slow performace in F.E.A.R. is a known issue, and a driver fix has been made available.

Both of these are in the review on HardOCP.

cheers bud!

amazing what engineers can do

so coupled with a die shrink and less trannies.....these things should run fairly cool

I'm waiting for the AT review to confirm, but HardOCP's video card reviews tend to be very good. Still debating on a 7900GTX SLI or 1900XT Crossfire setup, though I've been hearing bad things about Crossfire being flakey.

I hadn't seen the Hardocp review, I stand corrected

I am thinking Nvidia went with a smaller die and will sell the duo cards as the card to whip the X1900XTX.

Any idea on when those things will show up?
The 7900GT however looks like it could be a great price\performance card imo.

I doubt Nvidia will go to such elaborations simply to get back the performance crown, as the transistor count has show; Nvidia might be able to drop the prices on these cards like a rock. Plausibly faster than Ati could manage with its X1900 dispite it already in the process of doing so. Expensive Crossfire edition cards is ATI only achilles heel at the moment, so I willing to bet Nvidia will go after that. We will most likely see duo 7900~ cards quickly, but only as 3rd party.

im quite suprised, i didnt expect the 7900GTX to be all that much better, but looking at HardOCP review its certainly got plenty of grunt for games like fear and is very comparable to the mighty X1900XTX with is 48 pixel shaders

the 7900GT is even more impressive over the 7800gt, but then it should be with and extra vertex shader and an extra 4 pipelines. also i think a big factor for the 7900GT is its extra memory bandwidth. the 7800GT is held back by only having 1000Mhz memory (stock), the G70 really likes to have more bandwidth. (shown by the 7800GTX 512 with its 1700-1800Mhz memory)

and wow 93 degrees on the X1900 at full load? they must of gotten a card with the cooler fixed on funky......i could make a cuppa on that thing

agreed. same here.. I wasn't expecting 7900GTX with 24pipes compete so well..

seriously though i am gently suprised. i wasnt expecting that much performance, i was expecting the X1900XTX to be the daddy still. Granted the 7900GTX wins most of the benches at HOCP by a few frames (when same settings are used) but there are times where you can crank the IQ even further with it and still beat out the might of XTX.

the thing that made my jaw drop the most though is the temperature readings....i mean 43 degree idle and 74 load!! thats good going, cooler than the older stock 7800GTX 256 while delivering much more speed.

still its missing cool features such as the HQAF and HDR and AA (which seems very very playable in a game like Serious Sam)

Aslo keep in mind (I sound Like a parrot) That these reviews don't ake into account actual retail comparisons because most Nvidia providers have OC models (XFX has 4 different model all that are oc'd) while most (if any) ATI manufacturers do the same. I wish they would review retail card more often. Maybe not even a whole review but a dynamic chart they can update on the fly for each retail card.

According to the extremetech review, it looks like they did twist the core quite a bit.. same spec, but much less transistor count...
