ATI's superior in terms of image quality
1) ati has angle independent af
2) less shimmering (ex. playing far cry would demonstrate shimmering easily as you're looking into the horizon/ mountain)

other than that, i don't think there's much difference between the quality of nvidia and ati cards

See this is what I am talking about...Is it really superior? Besides that shimmering crap is the IQ really that noticeably different?

i think the HQAF is better. the shimmering is present on both cards. i guess you could argue which shimmering is worse, but it's there on both, and it's highly subjective (really annoys some people, others never even notice it). you CAN adjust LOD within the driver to minimize this effect.

what's funny is HCOP's article talking about it being really bad in WoW (where i hardly notice it). to me it's really noticeable in DAoC, where it is really noticeable on ati parts as well (running in 1280 on an LCD display).. some people complain about it in FPS, but in HL2, FEAR, Q4, D3, CoD/CoD2 i don't really notice it... oh well... maybe it's worse on 7800/7900?

my take is you should try and see for yourself; it's one of those things that doesn't affect people in the same way.

personally tho i'm leaning towards and x1900 this gen, but i'm not quite sold on it yet (heat/noise, crossfire are my main concerns).

Oooo:\ lol I don't really want to spend more than 300MAX so... ya. I could either get a 7900GT(when it gets in stock @newegg and if the price is still 299....) or what what ATI card...?

Also whats a retail store that would have computers set up with both ati and nvid cards and some games like BF2 etc you can demo..? I'm going through billings montana this coming week so any store suggestions to compare the cards...?

ati has a 1 year warranty.

powercolor is 1 year.

sapphire is 2 years.

visiontek has a "limited" lifetime warranty (it's only for the "retail life" of the card -- soon as it's discontinued, the warr is over as well.

to my knowledge, bfg's (nvidia partner) lifetime warranty is the only true lifetime warranty in the business.

as noted below evga (another nvidia partner) has a true lifetime warranty as well

nope....evga's lifetime warranty is much better than bfg's

evga's cover ocing, using aftermarket cooling....as long as you don't physically damage the card, they'll take it!

i believe sapphire has 3 years.

visiontek used to have a "lifetime" warranty, but it was only for the "retail life" (soon as it's discontinued, the warr is over as well).

Mostly right, except that Sapphire has only a 2 year warranty, and Powercolor also has a full lifetime warranty. Sapphire OEM's carry a 1 year warranty.

where can i get a $320 x1800?

CompUSA had them for $299 after $150 instant savings and $50 mail in rebate. I couldn't resist!! But as I checked out I see CompUSA online charges you tax! No shipping though so it ended up at $319 and some change. They still offer the rebates but have since raised the price..

ahhh.. cool.. i couldn't get in on that deal (at the time they refused, saying it was online only, when it clearly said "store avail"), and even so, it was $399 before the $50 rebate ($349 net).

i ended up ordering a sapphire 256mb for $299.. how do you like yours?

Well its supposed to arrive tommorrow(Sat.) and I can't wait! I have a zalman vf700Cu that I'll throw on it after testing it some with stock cooler to make sure it works as it should. Pretty excited about the software volt-mod option as I love to tinker w/settings. When do you get yours?

Haro - you can pick-up the EVGA 7900GT CO for $309 at Monarch, so I wouldn't wait for Newegg

Also Monarch has the 3DConnect X1900XTX that was priced at $400AR at $480AR which is still a very good deal and has me tempted to buy one. 3DConnect also offers a 2 year warranty.

Found that, I ordered my 4400+ from them, they tend to be very cheap, but have a small range of products.

XFX 7900gtx 512 £345 inc delivery(UK) and vat.

That's quite similar to the x1900xtx prices I've seen around.

ARGH so tempting. Must, wait, for price drop, ARRGGH

Thats where I got my two 7900 GT's. Truly phenomenal prices, only £207 each! Delivered.

I wouldnt bet on it.
Lowest on web I asusme will keep that price for a while now.
Plus, you have to consider the fact that most other places in the UK are charging £390 for the same card. So they have no reason to drop that price anytime soon, because even witha price drop, chances are their price will still be very competitive.

That said, those looking for an X1900 XTX, Overclockers UK has bargain prices at £345 for a Connect3D XTX and £354 for a Power Color one.

Yeah, but OCUK's delivery is a royal kick in the teeth. Well, at £350 the extra £10 or so probably is'nt so insulting, but still, it can be very annoying.

As for the x1900xtx, I'm more interested in a 7900gtx due to the quietness/cooler element, so hence why i'm so tempted by that £345 lol

Goddamn, £345. Although, I've just managed to save about £200 on my car insurance, and who knows, tax rebate soon, interest on savings, it's hard to resist!

I still think I'm going to go with the evga because of the lifetime warranty...:

Both cards seem when compared very close. And I doubt you can tell a very big difference in the cards...

Also remember that EVGA has started to match retailler prices so their Step Up program is probably your safest bet against buying a card just b4 a new one come sout.
