Hi i just got a 7900gs and i tried installing it. After I install the driver for the 7900gs and reboot it will go up to the windows xp logo screen and then my monitor would say no signal going to sleep. Then I would restart boot into safe mode uninstall the driver and then it would boot into windows normally. So basically with driver I cant go into windows. Without drivers I can. I already disabled my onboard. I have pcie as primary on bios. I even reinstalled windows just incase there was any conflict with the onboard. Please help me out

Full System Specs?

Uninstall the onboard video drivers first then disable it in system BIOS and assign the proper primary video; whether its AGP, or PCI-E.
Then install the nvidia card (Make you plug in the additional 6 pin PCI-E power lead if needed)
Then turn on the machine and install nVidia drivers.
Then fix up your video settings.

More detailed system specs might help people better diagnose the issue.

I had an issue awhile ago when I went from onboard audio to an add in card. When I disabled the on board in the bios, all of the audio would be disabled in windows. Are you absolutely sure you need to disable your integrated card? Have you tried without doing that step?

Hi I did all that except for the 6 pin because my psu dont have one. Ummm my system specs is amd athlon 64 3800+ windows xp. I recently tried plugging it into a 17" crt and it worked. It booted all the way through. its on 800x600. It seems like im using the card right now. It has the nvidia display panel. Its showing it as a display adapter. Now this is getting weird. The monitor i tried using before is a envision 19" widescreen lcd.

Hey Rafiki,

Your card should have come with an adapter cable that allows you to plug one of your molex (4-pin) connectors into your video card. This is what you are looking for:

You NEED to plug this card into the power-supply. I'm surprised you got any signal at all. Most times when I have forgotten to plug the power in, I get nothing. Give it a shot. check the box agai, I'm sure it came with this adapter.

Good luck.

Hey guys I just got a new psu with the pcie connector. Still same problem. I can boot with a 17'crt and LCD but not with 19" LCD. After booting with the 17" i can hot swap it with the 19" but it wont give me the 19" resolution.

sounds like a problem with windows xp monitor profile...

did you try booting into safe mode?

Wow, that is indeed weird. I was ready to call PUS but reread the part where it works on your CRT and NOT on the LCD, so that ruled out the PSU. The CRT should draw more power than the LCD, but its a moot point since it isn't hooked up to the PSU, rather the wall outlet. Jack mentioned the monitor profile being borked, which sounds like the next thing to address. Post back with your results.

so you use lcd and you see xp logo then monitor sleep. when you use crt, you see everything. now when you say it wont boot into windows with lcd did you check by plugging in your crt afterwards? (ie, have lcd connected, wait for xp logo, after monitor sleep, plug in crt) perhaps you are actually in windows but just cant see it? also have you tried dvi card -> dvi lcd and dvi card ->dvi-to-vga adapter -> vga lcd?

if indeed you cant get into windows, then i can say that i had the same problem with my 7950gt initially and in my case it was in fact something to do with the monitors. i had an old samsung lcd (2001ish) that the card just did not like. used a newer generation lcd (2005ish) and everything was fine.
