I had a Zalman passive heatsink on it and I wanted to make my computer even quieter, so undervolted my intake fan. I was playing UT2004 for couple hours and suddenly my computer shut itself down. I looked down and there was a puff of smoke rising up from the graphic card. It won't display anything anymore, so I got a temporary 6800GS for now.

lol didn't you know the 6600gt is one of the hottest running cards evar?

the CO heatsink is not very good, I was hitting 75C under load with it. I just installed the AC NVsilencer on my CO and now I don't break 62C running 510/1.14 (ambient temps ~70C) after an hour of ATI tool.

Wow.

Seven 7900GTXs in stock on launch day for $499 - $599, with clocks ranging from 650/1600- 690/1760, and the price is "disappointing" to you?

I think with 512GTXs selling out in minutes at $750, these will go fast at $499.. IMO

Seven 7900GTs from $299 - $359 is pretty good as well.

It performs terribly, wont even cool high end cards enough to prevent crashing

Nope, nor do they need to be, yet.

ATi's the only one with an HDCP compliant card, and it's not what you'd call a performance monster. (that, and it's not released to the public, either).

Well technically NVIDIA has the first HDCP part for sale. But you can only get it in a Sony computer (go figure).

Since HDCP is seperate from the GPU, pretty much any GPU can be called "compliant".

No, the GPU must have support for HDCP- the issue is the lack of support for HDMI on vid cards which is handled off chip.

HDCP encryption can be handled by a seperate chip on the card.
