Obviously volt-modding is not for everyone. But for someone like me who spent $20 for a step up from a 7800GT, $15 for a conductive pen and already had an NV Silencer 5 lying around, and which happens to fit into my case without having to cut it, and considering the mod can be reversed without trouble, it's a pretty damn good thing.

Nevertheless, I've said this before, I'm still tempted to get an X1900XT.

Also, My Kuformula VF1 Plus is on the way . . . gonna see if I can stay at 700 stable with it installed compared to the NVS 5.

Also as a note to all CO//XXX/OC 7900GT owners, an aftermarket HSF isn't really necessary unless you're going WELL beyond GTX speeds (650 GPU core). There are actually 2 default HSF's made for the the 7900GT reference design: non-overclocked HSF which covers only the GPU and the overclocked ones which cover both the GPU (with a copper plating) and the mem also. Since the mem mod isn't necessary, some may ignore this facet altogether.

And therein is the beauty of the 7900GT and it's versatility to mods: it can be a number of things: A fairly quiet, low powerd, and cheap solution with just a simple line draw, or a beast of an overclocker matching the higher end boards (without the $$$). It's all contingent on what you want to do with your application and comfortability.

Could we please stop the childish bickering? This isn't really contributing to the thread.

The bottom line is, if you're willing to take a slight risk and spend a little more cash on an aftermarket cooler, you can overclock $300 GT to beyond the speeds of a $500 card (7900GTX). Still sounds great to me. Maybe not for everyone, but it suits me just fine. (Well unless I finally give in and buy an X1900XT . . . )

Well apparently F.E.A.R. doesn't like my voltmodded GT very much. It would freeze/artifact/crap out after several minutes of playing. Doesn't seem to be the case with other games and the I can still bench F.E.A.R. quite fine but looks like I may have to once again lower my O/C. Can't wait till my VF1 Plus gets here so I can go 1.5v . . .
