Alright, I was definitely using 3dmark05 and I scored ~6000 again. Uninstalled powerstrip, reoverclocked with coolbits at 649/800 and scored a 10018. Hmmm... maybe I should try ATItool? I can't go past the above settings in coolbits...

Use Rivatuner and force it to recognize the 7900GT by forcing a VGA ID of "92". It's under the "System" section under the "Power User" tab.

Then you can disable the internal clock test and go as high as you want with Rivatuner.

RTHDRIBL . . .

And ATI Tool. Just choose Scan for Artifacts, and let it run for an hour.

(but you kinda have to be on the computer at the same time to see if artifacts (that sound thing) appear)

why can't someone make atitool for nvidia?

OK, my new best is 10175 with 650/879. I could try to push further, but would you say this is getting pretty close to the limit at 1.4v? Again, I have a VF700 for cooling, with heatsinks on the memory, but no pencil mod...
Thanks!

ON EDIT: Oh, that is with quality setting in the 3dmark05 profile within the nvidia toolbar. 10296 with performance set in the toolbar.

You should be able to get 900 on the memory. As for the core, I dunno. 650 seems to be pretty good. I can get 700 but I have a little better cooling so that may be part of it.

Heh, FEAR doesn't like these higher settings. Just bogs and basically locks...
Then I exit and the screen flashes what it is supposed to and then black, continuously, until I reset. I will drop the core a little, see what happens. I also set 3d performance fan setting to 100%...
I know you are all so anxious to hear how it goes.

I get the flash thing too sometimes. It just flashes from desktop to black and it'll just keep doing that. It seems to happen when I overclock in coolbits and hit "test new settings".

Now I'm assuming it's because I took off the voltmods (waiting on a multimeter) and didn't completely get PROBABLY some of the pencil lead off the memory one. Who knows, I'll probably reapply the voltmods and it'll all work fine again even though it should be the other way around.

Hmmm... no problem when running Godfather, but I get the same slowdown/studder/freeze in both FEAR and Battlefield. I believe it is the high memory settings because when I set it down to closer to 800, the studdering stops. Why would that be? Memory is overheating?
Thanks!

i too get the flashing, its gone now after reinstall of windows xp. i got speed of 670/1800 easily with nvtweak/built in cool bits. the first of the computer stalling and comp screen flashing is after i forced rivatuner to recognize the 7900gt. (or so i think). I have flashed the bios and i still get crap dots / white pixels that dont belong while running 3dmark 05. Although now i can clock the core and memory at 670 and 1800 again. but there are still white pixels everywhere. ne one have ne idea how to fix this?

[edit] i have both pencil and conductive ink pen volt mods. (1.4 V)

Can somebody please make a detail How-To step by step tutorial with for this mod? I have read all the posts here and still not clear what is exactly i have to do?

so i need to make 2 volt mods?
1) conductive ink mod (just draw a line like the picture and it will change the volt to 1.4v?)

2) pencil mod, how does the pencil mod work? i have looked at the picture few pages ago and i have no idea whats going on on the picture.

Also, for coolings, I'm about to get the vf-900 for it, but is it only cools the core but not the memory? what is the best way to cool both?

Thanks, hope someone can clearify all this, i believe there are alot of readers like myself wish to have this mod done but afriad to do it because of confusions.

You only need to do one mod, they both work. Choose one, the conductive pen one is easier to do and there is less chance of screwing it up, buy you will have to buy a conductive pen.
If you are only going to 1.4V then the VF700 is more than enough (full fan speed though) if you want to buy the VF900 for $20 more you can, though I don't recommend it.

this seems like the perfect place to ask this.

do you guys think a 7900GT voltmodded to 1.4v would be as fast as a X1900XT/X or faster? i'm asking because i can get a X1900XT for cheap. i'm thinking it would since some voltmodded + oc'ed 7900GTs can beat 7900GTXs or get close to them.

EDIT: the card is going into a shuttle SN25P.

vf900 is only $10 more if you know where to find it . Go to pricewatch.com search for zalman...then find the link to ewiz.com that has it listed for $38 shipped .

It's weird. I still have this problem of stuttering. I have to drop the clock to ~630/790 to prevent stuttering in video. Anyone have any ideas what is up? Everything is fine in 3dmark, but when I go to the couple games, it just dies on me...

okay, I'm going to get a conductive pen to do this mod, but i dont know where to draw, can someone explain this picture a little better.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/spazmaster666/7900vmoddiag6qw.jpg

I'm going for 1.4v, so i only need to draw the yellow line? is that what it means? and where do i connect to? the black hole or the white dot under where says 1.40V?
also, when i draw the line, the conductive pen ink should not touch any other components on the board except the little metal square and the other dot right??

please give me a detail explaination on the picture, im really confused, i dont want to screw up my new card. THANKS ALOT guys!!

I honestly don't think it could get any clearer than that photo. Sorry.

Draw the yellow line from dot to dot. There isn't any other points that you would hit if you follow the approximate line that is drawn in the picture.

damn....sooooo close to 11000 in 3dmark05...must resist the urge to overvolt further....

I got mine up to 675/1800 on 1.4V, and i'm getting load temps up to about 67C. Is this normal? I try to keep my CPU around 50, but I seem to remember that my old 6600GT was hitting upper 70s before i added the VF700-AlCu to it. I'm not gonna burn out my chip at 67C am I?

BTW, for anyone worried about doing the voltage mod, I had never done anything like that before and it wasnt difficult at all. Just do the conductive pen method (you can get one at radioshack for $12) and draw a line to connect the 2 dots as shown on the diagram. Havent tried shading the memory resistor yet, not sure if i'm gonna or not. I hit the max for coolbits (1800MHz) and i think that might be fine for me lol.
