Hi, i recently got myself a 7900GTX (eVGA 630/800) and i feel that it isnt giving 100%. In fact after playing 2-3 hours of BF2 it started to give me artifacts, such as big black trangular lines distorting everything. And everyone will say its my temps, but they barely go above 60C+. Also when i play Empire at War, someitmes it will freeze for two seconds, which never happened when i had my 7800GT, it just lagged more. I need to figure out if i need to RMA my card back to eVGA. Last night getting the artifcats in BF2* made me go and test it on 3dMark and this is what i got.

*I read around and some believe it is a driver/ game problem. Some say they can do fear for 4 hours and have no problems, but BF2 will artifact sometimes within 20 minutes.

My score
3DMark05: 10500

thats a pretty good 05 score... not really bad enough to say the card is your issue

Well, the card is the only thing i changed in my system. Everything else was proven to be 100% stable. I put my 7900GTX in and now i get artifacts in BF2 after 3 hours.
What is the average score for GTX'S?

I dont know what the average is, but considering I get 11k with one GT @ 600/1850 (Only 50mhz less on core, and 200mhz more on mem) and my CPU is a dual core clocked 400mhz higher than yours, I think your score is about what you can expect.

Known issue with the cards, go to evga forums and see if anything they can do.

Yeah lots of issues with 7900gtx cards. Youll probably need a bios update or RMA. Like he said, find the evga forums.

This post makes me nervous, really...I'm getting the step-up card like this N570 in return from eVGA in this week.
I'd suggest to call eVGA's tech support and they are great!
OP- is your the same exact card? and how new?

You may try to slow down the AMD clock a tad to see if it will help, say 2.4ghz and re-post here. I believe that could very well be your problem that both cpu and gpu start getting quite a bit quite warm. Artifacts are known to be caused by heat related issue from overclock/air-vent/under-powered.

How long did it take eVGA to ship you the new card after it had received your old card? eVGA received my old card last Friday and I wonder it will ship out the new card Monday or what?

I thought eVGA crosships RMA orders. I know its not my CPU clock. Its been at this speed for a good 5 months and no problems. I havent RMAed my card yet.

Man after searching the web for the problem I was having with the 7900 gtx, I found that this is a pretty serious issue right now with the 7900 series of cards in general, not just the GTX but the GT as well. Their is tons of threads at Nvidia's own forums, Anandtech, Nvnews, Evga, XFX etc....most people think its a flaw in the design of the G71 core, but of course Nvidia wouldn't admit that. Their's people that have gone though like 3 or 4 cards all with the same problem. I'm glad I wasn't the only one........so it looks like I'll keep the 1900XTX and return the 7900 GTX tommorrow...

I realized that you had no problem with previous card but I'd suggest to slow down the cpu's clock cycle a tad to see if the situation improves.
Did you get the 7900gtx thru the step-up program? If you did, how long did it take evGA to send you the step-up card once it had received the old card?

Good plan. As a single card, the X1900XTX is generally faster anyway.

Well I got an interesting email from Evga tech support. They said to RMA the card to them and they will replace it with a new one. They also said their is a known problem with the 7900 series of cards, but of course they didn't say what, just that it was a known problem...doesn't matter anyway I'm returning the 7900 gtx and keeping the 1900 xtx...
