what mobo are you using...if it is the p4b266-c...i know that only asus 1 and 2...the higher one is the cpu temp and the lower is the system temp...CUSL2 doesn't work...and sensor 3 i still can't figure out what it is

some new info on bios settings for vid cards...

these 2 settings yielded the best benchmarks:

GF3 ti500
Optimization Mode = Turbo1
Graphics Aperture = 64mb

GF4 ti4400
Optimization Mode = Turbo1
Graphics Aperture = 256mb

So thugs since I dont want to read through your whole post what cpu cooler are you using? I think I may just get me a P4B266 instead of a 4bda ...

If you hit 180 I am getting a P4B266

so far im 1.6@2.4 stock cooling
1:1
1.7v
2,2,2,5

samsung 2700 and the asus p4b266-c
Im sure i can run at 1.5v or lower, but i just run high to be more stable.

Ill try 2.8ghz or in that direction once i get a better cooler. right now 2.4ghz kicks ass and i dont really need more for the time.

You'd be better off backing down 1 click to 132 FSB so you can use the 3:4 mem ratio. You have good ram.

Sorry for not reading the entire post but can you adjust the PCI buss on the P4B266-c when overclocking the FSB so it does not run so far out of spec? I dont want to kill my HD.
Thanks for any info you might have.

Yep! Check out the TURBO 1 and TURBO 2 optimization modes in the BIOS. Those settings will lock the PCI/AGP speeds--I recommend Turbo 1.

I dont get the 3:4 setting. besides changing the fsb down 1mhz is there anything else i do? Do i just set it to suto or what?

If i set it to auto how do i figure out what the fsb will make it? BTW... the 1:1, 3:4 setting, what does that do? does 3:4 mean the ram will be going faster then the cpu? for my ps there was a option like that but 133:133 or 100:133. is that the same as 3:4?

BTW... I am currently at 2.5ghz 16x156, 1.7v
I just installed windowsxp and with a ti200 im getting just about 9000 3d2001se marks. if i tweak xp a little more and make sure nothing if running in the background i think ill be able to break or come close to 9000 marks. BTW this si with the defult cooling and i got 50c max cpu temp. I belive i can do 2.8ghz only if i get an alpha.

tnx all

I'm not sure where the 3:4 is in the P4B.. Thugs? It is a tradeoff of FSB/CPU speed VS mem speed. If you get up there in FSB speed, you will be running 1:1 anyway since the ram would not be able to handle 3:4. Here are examples.

133 FSB, 2.128 GHz, 1:1, DDR266
132 FSB, 2.112 Ghz, 3:4, DDR352
In this case, the setup running DDR352 would be faster

You are now running:
156 FSB, 2.496 GHz, 1:1, DDR312, which is not bad either. Since you can't use 3:4 above 132 FSB, there is no decision to be made in which way to go.

the 3:4 ratio goes away @ 133fsb.
going to 132fsb/3:4 would be a good alternative.

however going from 140fsb down to 132fsb just to get that 3:4 ratio is a waste.

i finally converted my entire system over to panaflo low speed fans!
man this is so quiet - and my temps only went up by 1*C max :Q
right now my loudest fans are my PSU fans, and i might replace those too.
i can hear my hard drives again

i promised you guys more Prime95 torture tests, and today i finally got around to it

some of you remember that i already tested 166fsb @ 1.72v and it ran for 9.5 hours before an error - more then enough to concider it stable. (besides all i have to do is add more vcore and itll run longer anyways)

today im testing 170fsb @ 1.80v.
its been running for 05:15:00 so far w/ a max CPU temp of 51*C.

six hours is enough to make me happy, but ill let her run til it drops or 12hours - whichever comes 1st.
