TimidOCer the system is less then 24hours old. im still working on overclocking the fsb and making sure its stable. tweakin mem settings is the last thing i would want to do before finishing the CPU overlock.

besides Sandra memory test doesnt mean chit when it come to games. sandra thinks bandwidth is more important then top speed, and thats just not so. id say both are just as important.

think of it like a highway....
do want a 2 lane highway with a 75mph speed limit? (333mhz ddr cas2/2/2)
or would you want a 3 lane highway with a 55mph speed limit? (400mhz ddr cas2.5/4/4)

sandra says the 400ddr is better, but i personally dont agree.

HOLY SH!T. I got the exact same chip. Same plant, same date. batch #3205a752.
Bought it at newegg this week.

I'd be very farkin happy if i could get 2.4 at default voltage!

Well I guess we all have different ocing "styles" but with the samsung pc2700 you have I wouldnt be worried about anything ... personally Id put every single tweak option on the ram becuase with the pc2700 it can take it. If it didnt boot at say 170 first thing Id do is turn it off.. but thats just me ... I wouldnt do that with crucial.. but with samsung

what i meant was - i already know the limitations of the memory from my last system. its rated cas222 and thats how its set by spd right now. i just wanna be 100% sure the OC is nice and stable before going any further with tweaking. im a very patient overclocker

on the upside - i played some Serious Sam for 2 hours today - 166fsb hasnt crashed yet

Thugs my 1.8a at 145 fsb was at 2.61ghz , scores on sisoftware2002 were cpu 4953/3199multi 10335/12550memory 2148/ 2035 memory scores are a low because I have pc2100 at cas2.0 to keep memory reasonable even then its at 290mhz if I kept it at cas2.5 it would be 362.5mhz and thats just to high for 266mhz memory even if it is Samsung.

Hey its all good man dont worry I didnt take it the wrong way. Man am I jealous tho I am trying to sell my tbird system right now so I can afford a p4 . It seems to me from my little observation that the p4's with package dates that are fairly new (3/19/02 for instance ) are doing much better than the older ones! Great news for me and everyone else too hehe ..

170 man thats awesome .. temps still 39c? is that load or idle?

temps are max 42*C full load so far.

both the motherboard and CPU are absolutely freakin incredible!
i highly recommend them both

again this stuff is at default - right out of the box!
besides changing the FSB and vcore, i havent touched a thing in the bios.
* no wire mod
* no water cooling
* not even a high dollar HSF!

great overclock...How is your HSF compared to retail one? I am afraid of trying anything above 2.4ghz with the retail HSF!

the heatsink itself is awesome - not too bulky, not too heavy, easy clip, doesnt bend the moboard, easy to clean, etc.
the fan is OK. good air but a little louder then retail. id replace the fan with something better but its hard to find 70mm fans yet. the heatsink also accepts 60mm fans too.

for only $11 you cant beat it

The best I got was 2300 on my system,does the heatsink really pay a big part?

I was lead to beleive that temps didnt play a part that much.

So cool=faster but overheat=throttle.

I never tough low temps= OC heaven.

I still never go over 50C but can never seen to go to 2.4ghz at ANY voltage,2.4gz is bootable at 1.775 but Prime95 doesnt agree.

the heatsink, arctic silver, good case cooling - its all just good cheap insurance and makes me feel good
at the very least, heat is something i never have to worry about, or could try to "blame" as a problem.

honestly tho - if i didnt have those 3 things i dont think id be able to run this high.

Thugs - supposedly when you set "Turbo 1" in your BIOS (usually on "normal") it locks the PCI at 37 MHz and AGP at 74 MHz, no matter what FSB. That is what I have been told. Although if its stable @ 170 FSB without Turbo 1 then you have some hella good components in there!

im a gamer so i like AGP overclocks.
i tested this "system" on another moboard @ 132fsb 44PCI 88AGP.
all ran well for a week so i knew PCI/AGP could not possibly be a problem.

Turbo1 mode may actually slow my benchies down at this point

Budman heres a great way to tell if your puter if sensative to heat ...raise the room temp by 6*C/10*F and see what happens

right now im surfin the net and listening to mp3s....
room temp = 26*C/78*F (i live in south florida)
moboard temp = 28*C/82*F
cpu temp = 31*C/87*F

eventually i will run that test on this system


also, i have a question for everyone/anyone...
does the P4B266-C have a 1/5 PCI divider or not?
im using the 1002.005 bios.
according to the way my benchmark results scaled - id say it doesnt. (not that i mind)
sandra aint talkin, is there any other software for this info?
i mean i kinda like to know if im running a 42.5PCI or a 34PCI ya know?
