Hey thugs! It's the 1.95 Willie man here remember??? At first congrats on the o/c and thanx for your contribution to mine!!
Two things to say-For the buses speed question u are absolutely right for the problem. Sandra stops talking about it when o/cing and ASUS mobos (I got P4T-E) are a bit "hide and seek" about it. From a very deep research I made for my occasion (probably applies to u too) there are two DSW settings @133,150 FSB that turn the multipliers at 1/5 for the PCI and 2/5 for the AGP. That's info for DSW from the P4T manual which also applies to my mobo. I guess sth relevant happens to yours but maybe for other FSB scaling. I strongly believe that ASUS has these multipliers applied at these FSBs u are running!!
:Q
Second....Did u run Prime95 to test yet? Plz post result.....
Keep up the good work man! We all love u here...!

THUGSROOK - thanx man .... cuz im building a p4 rig for a friend and got the EPOX EP-4SDA+ SiS645, its a POS, crashes right after i do anything after a fresh install of win XP Pro corp and wont let me install the Nvidia drivers. I would install the drivers and then after i reboot they wouldnt be there or installed. I was so pissed cuz on my Asus CUSL2-C i815 mobo i never had crashing like this and I figured its the mobo. Everything else in the rig is top of the line stuff Maxtor 60GB HD, PNY Ti4400, Samsung PC-2700 ect ..... so im only going with intel mobos from now on .... thanx again for the info ill order that after newegg gets the sh*tty EPOX back

Corsair XMS2700 512mb rated Cas2
Enermax 430W
i bought this whole system from newegg.

SSXeon5 thats exactly why i post this info
im just a typical overclocker on a typical system giving honest results for good or bad.
(ok well maybe im not a typical overclocker)

thx Barrei
actually there is nothing wrong with 170fsb. its been running great for those 20hours. played serious sam for a few hours and i ran 3dmark2k1se in a loop for over 6 hours. no instability at all.
i just dont think it would be a good idea to stress test 170fsb when i already know that 171fsb is a no-go.

im sure noone would mind if i start stress testing at 166fsb and work my way up

ill be sure to post a complete list of what im using to stress test, and for how long i run it for. ill also update the vcore needed and temps info as i go along.

*in my experience you CAN hurt moboards/cpus by "running them on the VERY edge". if prolly wont kill the hardware - but you "might" lose some overclocking potential. ...right Duvie? hehe
>>

Yea thanx again you dont understand how pissed i was after booting over 100times and crashing and random restarts sent me over the edge. When it arrives at newegg will defently order the asus P4B266-C And I never new that ocing the chips to the max can hurt ocing in the future. Damn ThugsRook 170fsb is amasing .... congrats on a amazing air cooled oc! Keep it up man

Great results so far..waiting for the end results (stable, etc)
I wasnt able to do the 148x16FSB/37PCI, 4:6 after all on my board..had to drop back down to 150x16FSB/38PCI, 4:5, 2.5-3-3 @ 2.7v
I got a BSOD after about 1 full day of 3dmark2001 and Final Reality benches...

dbwillis i couldnt even do 133fsb 4:6 100% stable on that board - 4:6 is a tough one.

Camma we are not entirely sure this board has a working 1/5 PCI yet.
the AGP is definatly at 1/2 all the way to 170fsb. my benchmarks would have shown a dropoff somewhere.

*i updated the main page with some minor info

I just wanted to say I got a 1.6A from newegg last week same batch running on a MSI 845 Ultra ARU with 512 MB PC2700 Samsung Memory. It does 2.4 ghz without touching a thing, but the bus speed. I have it running 2.65 Ghz at 1.625V right now with the retail heatsink (with intel thermal crap) In a 3DCool.com tornando 2000 Case. Nice upgrade from a dual 366 @ 500 BP6 system.

nice over 1ghz overclock

I never seem to get one of the "primo" chips. Don't get me wrong. I'm very happy with 1.6 @ 2.4, but mine needs 1.675 to be 100% stable. I'd love to have one that did 2.4 GHz @ 1.5 Vcore!

that is one thing i do so love about my 1.6A... its at 2.4 rock stable, at 1.58V. Anyway, here's to hoping ASUS likes us with some pci dividers!

You've got me all excited. Because I have the same chip, same batch/date, same plant too!

I just haven't put my rig together yet! still waiting for my ram :frown:

seaning how much stress has it been able to handle so far? not bad for your 1st post

oldfart theyre so cheap why not just get another? the new ones seem to all be doing very well.

Camma it may have 1/5 PCI, it may not - donno yet.
ill run some HD benchmarks at 133fsb, 140fsb, 150fsb, 160fsb, and at 166fsb - maybe that will clue me in as to whats going on.

Update 166fsb
<passed> Benchmarks
<passed> 3DMark2000 (6 hour loop)
<passed> 3DMark2001SE (6 hour loop)

Everything is running 100% stable

Heres the Prime95 benchie results for those that care...
Best time for 256K FFT length: 9.851 ms.
Best time for 320K FFT length: 12.711 ms.
Best time for 384K FFT length: 15.235 ms.
Best time for 448K FFT length: 18.298 ms.
Best time for 512K FFT length: 20.497 ms.

Well, I've had the system up for almost 24 hours now, I left it running Giants all night (that game killed my old computer). I having been playing alot of Q3 engine based games, watched some divx movies. Transfered 10 GB over my network .. ran PCmark2002, and all the 3D marks. Ran sisoft Sandra... I haven't ran Prime or anything super hard on it yet, but so far no hiccups... I might load up Oracle Enterprise Server just for fun.

Eh, not that big a deal. If I had a real dog that wouldn't overclock well, I'd think about it, but I'm running @ 2.4 stable. I'll live with it (for now). The thing is, mine is a "new one". Pack date of 3/22. The last 3 CPU's I've got have been this way (Tualeron, PIII-S, P4A). They overclock well enough, but need that extra Vcore boost. I seem to not be very lucky when it comes to getting the best chips I would say that a P4 1.6A @ 2.4 @ default Vcoe has to be a pretty lucky draw from the bin. That is pretty darn good.

all the northwood chips come from the same wafer right? And then they lock the multiplier to 16, 18, etc etc ?

maybe.... for the 3/19/02 batch @ costa rica they had a shortage of 1.6A chips, so they used the 2.2 chips and clocked them down

correct me if i'm wrong... I have very wishful thinking

oldfart you may be right - the 3/19/02s seem to be the best.

link26 ummm something like that - we may never know for sure
id think they have to test each and every chip do some degree - so they must know whats what.

I got mine @ 2.4GHz without increasing the voltage at all and it is perfectly stable. Also since there is no increase in voltage it runs very cool.

Also this RDRAM @ 450MHz completely rocks!

Which mobo do you have? Asus or Abit?

Doesn't a 2.4 ghz chip run hotter than a 1.6 chip? or does the temperature depend only on the voltage?

The mobo is an Asus P4T-E. It runs hotter then is does at it rated speed but considering i overclocked it by 800MHz and has been running for a week, 38C is cool.
