The card will reportedly be clocked at 550MHz with 24 pixel shader processors, 512MB of 700MHz memory (1.4GHz effective), and High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection built in as standard. Official pricing will be $299, just like the current GeForce 7900 GT that clocks in at 450MHz/660MHz by default and has half the memory. The GeForce 7950 GT really looks more like a GeForce 7900 GTX with 100MHz lower core and memory clocks and added HDCP support, which could make it a tantalizing choice for overclockers.

edit: forgot to mention, the 7900GS will be launched Aug 30th @ $199

lol guys....looks like no time soon on the G80, NV has really kept a tight lid on the card. when i first read the article on the 7950GT, this card immediately came to mind, it's pretty much the same thing.

edit: for grammar

No he doesn't. The G80 will probably be out by the end of the year. Theinquirer claimed it would be out in September, but that looks unlikely now.

G80 will hit hopefully, because these cards wont affect the G80 what so ever.

So when these cards hit,

G80 - $599 ~ $699
7950GX2 - $499
7900GTX - $399
7950GT - $299
7900GS - $199
7600GT - $139~?

This is what i am thinking. NV can happily go into price war as their cost for GPU production IS MUCH cheaper than ATi due to low transistor count and smaller die size. Not to mention they produce more per waffer.

Could the 7950GT be an SLI card like the 7950GX2? just the GT or lower speed version? or do we know that is not the case?

Is it just me or the name of this card is really misleading? It's sounds more like the 7950GX2 than the 7900GT.

Hmmm...

With these new SKU's. Here is my guess.

Geforce 7950 GX2 499US 500MHZ/1200MHZ/2*512MB/2*(24/8)
Geforce 7900 GTX 399US 650MHZ/1600MHZ/512MB/(24/8)

Geforce 7950 GT 299US 550MHZ/1400MHZ/512MB/(24/8)
Geforce 7900 GT 249US 450MHZ/1320MHZ/256MB/(24/8) (Unofficially)
Geforce 7900 GS 199US 450MHZ/1320MHZ/256MB/(20/7)

Geforce 7600 GT 149US 560MHZ/1400MHZ/256MB/(12/5)
Geforce 7600 GS 119US 400MHZ/ 800MHZ/256MB/(12/5)

Radeon X1950 XTX 449US 650MHZ/2000MHZ/512MB
Radeon X1950 XT 399US 650MHZ/2000MHZ/256MB

Radeon X1900 XTX 349US 650MHZ/1550MHZ/512MB
Radeon X1900 XT 299US 625MHZ/1450MHZ/512MB

Radeon X1950 Pro 249US 600MHZ/1400MHZ/256MB
Radeon X1900 GT 199US 575MHZ/1200MHZ/256MB

I hope the X1900 GT becomes priced at 199US.

If you account for product discontinuations, the 7900 GT disappears from the top list while the bottom list changes as follows.

Radeon X1950 XTX 512 449US
Radeon X1950 XT 256 399US
Radeon X1900 XT 256 299US
Radeon X1950 Pro 256 249US
Radeon X1650 XT 256 199US

Though there is going to be quite some overlap as the X1900 XTX 512, XT 512, and GT are cleared out.

The X1900XTX/X1900XT/X1900GT will probably slowly be replaced by X1950XTX and X1950pro.

There is no word for X1950XT, but rather a X1900XT with 256mb GDDR3 to replace the current X1900XT.

Also, the 7900GT will be discontinued. The 7600GT/GS will be dropped further in price, and even further when refreshed with the 80nm process.

The first dual gpu cards were called 7900GX2, those just didn't make it into mass production as they were quickly replaced by the 7950GX2. What else should NV call this new card?

My thoughts exactly. The eVGA KO card you linked actually has higher clocks: core/mem are higher by 10/50MHz. At least it looks like all the 7950xxx series cards will be HDCP-compliant: a nice added feature for a great MSRP. Release this a full month before the X1950 Pro and make them available in quantities: more money to nVidia.

Only problem is: if the X1950XTX does become available for $400 the same day, expect a lot of threads like, "X1950XTX worth the $100 extra dollars over the 7950GT?"

And I think the answer will be yes.

Yeah, and who will buy a 400$ 7900 GTX with the x1950xtx at the same price? Not to mention youre paying 100$ for 100/100 clock increases.. Not worth it

I have read about the X1950 XT, it's basically the same thing as the X1950 XTX with only 256MB of Memory from the rumors currently out.

Hence I put unofficially in there, for the 7900 GT, as they still need to clear stock on that SKU.

The 80nm process shrinks may or may not drop the 7600 Series line in pricing tiers, if there are no SKU's between them and the 7900 GS, they will probably remain the same price with HDCP support instead. 149US and 119US are generally 1 tier down from 199US.

Probably not, with only 196mm2 die size at 90nm shrinking to 80nm would reduced it to
154mm2 which is below the needed threshold for a 256Bit Wide Memory Interface.

You won't see 80nm from Nvidia for high end SKU's I believe till either G80 which is currently rumored to be on 90nm or in 2007 with the refresh.

so the 7900GTX is faster than the 7950GT? that isn't confusing at all.

It is a known fact that the G73 core in the 7600 GT/GS and 7300GT has 16 pipelines, with only 12 being enabled in the 7600GS/GT and 8 in the 7300GT.

It is strange that there seems to be no 16-pipeline G73 card coming, as it would be a perfect gap-filler between the 7600GT and 7900GS.

It can be seen on this picture of the 7900GS that it will still have an external power connector. A 16-pipeline 7700GT (let's say) would be smaller and require no external power.

All those poor people buying the Ti4600 over the Ti4200, what were they thinking?!?

*Heck, even 6800U over the GT, and I am even guilty of that one
