It's a awesome card , but the 6970 Lightning sported similar hardware features and upgrades and was what $400 dollars ?
Now that AMD has competition from Nvidia and it's own lineup, 600 bucks for this cards is to much.

They price this card at $499 and it'll make a few people take another look at it over the 680, but not at $100 more.

If they could have got this on newegg even the day before the 680 launch I bet they would have sold out quick even at $599. Now in a post 680 market I don't see it selling out for that price period.

sigh, I just could not resist it. Believe me, if they had the 680 lightning even in the near future, I'd go for it instead. I'll admit it freely, total impulse buy. But, I'm worth it baby!

Oh I'm sure it did, probably closed the gap considerably on the 680 in the games reference was behind in by a lot.

Is this true? If it is slower than a stock 680 then it would have to sell for a bit lower than 500.00.

Most all the reviews I have seen show when both cards are overclocked decently, they perform at pretty much the same level. The 7970 seems to scale better as it is overclocked, but regardless, should be priced no higher than the 680 as the 680 performs better at stock speeds and is slightly more energy efficient. However this particular car, is really beefed up and is worth a extra $30-50 over a standard 7970 if yuo are into overclocking and tweaking.

I'm sure they are trading blows equally now. I'm betting MSI was probably tweaking it and testing it alongside of the 680 way before the release

Ill give it the benefit of the doubt. It should be priced at $549. My reason being that it has 3gb of VRAM and a 384bit bus. This thing will be a multi-monitor performing monster with xfire.

This card is 12% faster than the stock 7970 so just add 12% to its performance and then you will get a rough estimate of how that card compares.

According to these slides this card would be 2% faster at 1920 and 10% faster at 2560x1600 with AA.

tpu results are similar 4% faster at 1080p and 7% faster at 2560.

according to tomshardware it would be 4% slower at 1080p. toms didn't provide 2560 summaries as it's a poor site.

That's a rough estimate, real results could vary by 2-4%

So it's a wash at 1080p and it ever so slightly edges out GTX680 at 2560

Yeah my apologies, next time I'll post all of them and flood the forum with benchmarks I fond non relevant.

Deus is unplayable with the 7970 due to AMD's driver problems dropping to 20 fps all the time, and Metro 2033 is an unoptimized 2010 title (neither card would be considered playable by most even at 1080p), kind of like using Crysis only without the devoted fanbase or the terrible frame rates.

I guess posting 2/3 of the top current titles and one Gaming Evolved title straight out of the AMD PR campaign is "cherry picking" though, my bad.

Yes, I know. It was just to show that it proves nothing. I relied on performance summaries to compare the performance of those cards and not by comparing some cherrypicked games.

Yes and batman is such a great game with simply stunning visuals that sets new trends how DX11 should be used to achieve super high quality graphics with smooth performance
