How do these temps look?

Bitcoin mining:
1200/1050 @1.12v as measured in AB, actual voltage
85C at load
54% fan (auto setting) - it's louder than I can bear, but thankfully the computer is not in the bedroom!

In BF3 I have it set at 1125/1575 at a slightly lower voltage (~1.08v actual) and it's about 10C cooler.

Graphics cards are usually rated for 90C, so that looks good to me. As always, the cooler the better .

OK, that BIOS did the trick gents, got it running well. With the new BIOS, I could go up to ~1.35V real I'd imagine (never applied it, too chicken ). I had some trouble getting it to actually work, but it seems like the combination of the new BIOS and GPU Tweak (or the fact that I switched "cards" and drivers about 3 times in an hour) borked PowerPlay. I'm not too found of idling at 1.15V , so I flashed back to my Gigabyte BIOS for now. When I have more time to play and a little more information on what's "safe" for these cards, I'll crank it, but for now I'm just sticking with my gaming clocks of 1300/1600. Good to see my VRM cooling keeps them <70C though. It'd be nice if one of these programs had all the features we wanted and worked well.

hey guys,
just got my Sapphire 7970 with Trixx (the sapphire tweaking tool) to :
Core: 1300Mhz, and Memory: 1720Mhz at 1.25Volts.
Idle temps are at 41 degrees, and at load it's 55degrees with a koolance waterblock

Very nice overclock. Wish my ram went that high.

Have you tried any benchmarks or gaming at those clocks?

Have some questions about underclocking the memory.

In AB the memory slider's set to 685 - GPUZ reports 685 but AB is still at 1375 on the graph. Is this an AB bug?

However, GPUz's first tab it says 685MHz, but under the 'sensors' tab it says 1375. Can anyone verify the same? Which tab is correct? :hmm:

i did 3dmark11, @ stock clock i got 8.5k for the GPU score
@OC i got 10k.

i played abit of bf3, on ultra and with only 4xMSAA and 4xAA and get around 70ish frames? and the lowest would be around 45 ish? didn't really take down notes.

I discovered something kinda funny. For some reason MSI Afterburner messed up and was applying the lowest clock speeds possible within the utility for the past couple of days. It was appying 460MHz core and 685MHz memory for each card every time Windows started. I didn't even notice. Things were still playing smoothly. It's fixed now with the correct 1000MHz core and 1600MHz memory settings.

Is this according to the slider settings, the graphs, or both? See my post above for why I ask, as my memory clock slider and graph don't match up. I'm using 2.2.0 beta 11.

Weird, what is it about my AB that has the memory clock Mhz graph stuck at 1050 and won't go lower?

After getting some pretty low fps in the Metro 2033 I discovered Powertune is kicking in when I use Asus GPU Tweak. Switch to AB and my fps climb again. Problem is that only GPU Tweak will allow GPU voltages over 1.3V but only AB seems to play nice with Powertune.

Anyone with the unlocked Asus bios have any way around Powertune?

Not on mine.

Hmm. I don't want to run >1.3V for normal usage but it would be nice for benchmark runs. So either we need AB to support higher voltage or GPU Tweak to play nice with Powertune.

are any of you guys using eyefinity? only reason i ask is because i am looking to upgrade to the 7970 from a 5870 but I use eyefinity (5760 x 1080). i was interested in seeing some benchmark numbers to determine any performance gains with OC vs stock. if anyone knows where to look i would appreciate the heads up. thanks!

I know a guy who is a friend of my 2nd cousin' Uncle's Grandfather's nephew's half-brother who is a Sorceror who got the core to 2500MHz and the GDDR5 to 2700MHz.

Somebody mentioned that they couldn't hit 1.2V with their 7970 without the PC shutting down. My issue is similar. I have a 1.12V 7970 that I'm overclocking with Afterburner. Overclocking it has proved interesting...if I initially set an OC of 1125MHz at 1.12V, it will run Furmark all day without artifacts at all. If I start playing with higher voltages and clocks, then go back to the original settings, I get artifacts on a previously stable OC.

If I go past 1.2V I get artifacts past 1135MHz and the system eventually misbehaves. The display will go into sleep/no-video-attached mode and remain catatonic. At first I thought maybe it was PSU related, but this is an Antec HCP-850...even a single 12V3 rail should provide enough amps (40A) to both PCIe power connectors. I tried using PCie power connectors from two different 12V rails anyway...nothing changed.

I guess the 7970 I have just doesn't like being maxed out with a synthetic benchmark pas 1135MHz and 1.2V or so.

1200 core with 1.181 vcore. I can go higher but Diablo 3 is not that intensive on my card lol.

Necro-Bump. First 7970 OC Thread I found in search, so just posting here.

Have a Sapphire 7970 Ref model, could OC to CCC Max 1125/1575 without issue. Would generally stay quiet but with the summer with coming the fan would ramp up so returned to stock settings majority of the time.

With a new cooler, thanks Blackened, the Arctic Cooling Xtreme 7970, I OC'ed it to 1225/1650 @ 1.225v without issue. Temps never passed 60C.

Loving this cooler, and my card even more
