''Tons '' is an exaggeration.

It implies that the majority of users suffered from this.....

Tons of reports?Sure.
He's right. I've seen a lot of reports about the coil wine. I think Rvenger, if I'm not mistaken sent his 7990 back because of it. It's too bad, because it's a great card and when it was $599 it was so tempting. That's the only thing that held me back from buying one.

I was simply trying to give someone a heads up on the coil whine, i'm assuming that most folks here can stand a *little* coil whine if it's non noticeable but there are some GPUs where it is incredibly loud and distracting. Apparently, a lot of 7990 cards fit that bill.

Anyway, it really is tiring to get attacked on stuff like this, you know like I said I bought 2 dual X 7970s in 2012 to potentially replace my reference 7970 cards (I had 7970CF at the time). Both of the dual X cards had horrible coil whine that could be heard outside of my computer room that not even vsync would fix, and it was a major annoyance. Needless to say I kept my reference 7970s (which didn't have coil whine) and had to RMA the dual X cards which was a pain in the neck.

That said, the 7990 (if it has coil whine) would still make for a good mining setup regardless if it's out of earshot and not being used as a regular PC. Out of sight and out of mind, I suppose.

So anyone get that refurb PowerColor 7970?

Yup, I did. My price went up by $10 by the time I was done with checkout and I see that it comes with a free D-Link router now... No router for me even though I paid extra. I ordered it via newegg mobile app (5% off promo code) with newegg 3 day shipping and grand rtotal was $252. It shipped out today, even though I ordered it 2 days ago (Monday).

Yes grab the 1600 32GB kit. No difference or real world there is no difference from 1600 to 2400 ........ you benchmark it fine. But who cares about that, you want your rig to be stable as a rock.

So anyone take delivery yet? Mine just shipped

I was supposed to get mine today but I didn't...

Newegg has disappointed me yet again with their horrendous shipping... I ordered my 7970 on Monday via mobile app with newegg 3 day shipping.

However, I did finally get my 7790s which I ordered on Saturday via shop runner 2 day shipping (lol...).

On the bright side, the case I ordered two days ago via newegg free super saver shipping (4-7 business days) arrived today...

Wtf is going on newegg!?

Received my powercolor refurbs toady..

card1- crashes the instant heaven benchmark begins to load
card2- horrible clicking sound coming from the fan. I was able to remove the shroud and mess with the fan enough to get it to spin without the noise. Mining at default settings was giving me 450 kh/s and will cause a driver crash after a period of time.

No more refurbs for me.

edit: Ha, forget about the refund. It was listed as no refunds only 90 day replacement. Maybe powercolor can help me out

280X cards are now 390$ on newegg with R9-290 being 499$. 7950s were 399$ a few days ago, although OOS now. 290X is 599$. Gotta love those miners inflating the prices into the realm of stupidity....

Apparently at oc UK corporations are buying AMD cards in lots of 100, not for PC gaming of course. But for mining. Gotta wonder how sustainable LTC is going to be since the difficulty has to be going up by leaps and bounds given the current situation.

Was it ever this bad with the Cayman cards? I remember BTC was somewhat profitable then (since ASICs didn't exist at the time) but I don't remember price inflation due to mining being THAT bad back then.

Wow, that's terrible... Have you contacted newegg or Powercolor to request an RMA?

Mine is hopefully going to arrive today...

Well it's kind of a different story. Back when BTC started, people didn't have a successful predecessor to compare it to. Now that everyone is comparing LTC to BTC, no wonder everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

My refurb arrived on Friday. I've had no problems at all. Actually, to be honest, it is running better than expected.

Maybe I'm just unlucky. I contacted powercolor for rma, hopefully they will test the cards before they ship.

I was lucky to snag 2 R9 290s at my local Micro for $389 and $399 respectively. I still haven't received the Power Color.

I checked my local Micro Center about a week ago, they pretty much had nothing on the AMD shelves except a few overpriced 7 series cards and the very low end R7s.

The storm that is affecting much of the nation has really messed with shipping, check the tracking info for inclement weather notes maybe?

Well my powercolor works fine - card is detected as x8 native in my motherboard for some reason. Not an issue with idle mode as ive spun it up. It just goes from x8 1.1 to x8 2.0 and its in the right slot. Tried reseating the card, but no difference. Probably doesn't make a bit of difference for mining, but it upsets my OCD.

Never had this issue before - ideas anyone?

Corporations going through a retailer to buy a batch of 100 cards? I wonder who in the world would believe this.

Feel free to ask gibbo at OC UK because he's a retailer in the UK and he said that corporations are buying them in lots of 100-1000. If you think he's lying, by all means take him up on that.

I know the world is out to get AMD with lying reviewers, lying retailers, nvidia sabotaging them, and nvidia intercepting review cards mid transit to add coil whine and fan noise but in this case I do believe Gibbo is being genuine when he states that corporations are buying these cards and not for PC gaming.

I'm not claiming it to be any conspiracy it is you all the time. It's way too dumb for any corporation or company to go to a retailer for cards when they can get batches from the assembler main warehouse way cheaper and faster. Ordering a batch of 100 cards is in the realm of any mid size retailer and I've done it for other stuff to bypass the retailer and get a huge discount.
