I'm going to give it a shot. I'll either pull the middle fan out if I have to or by an RV03 if that doesn't work. I really want to give quadfire a shot.

Mr. Money bags You could get a thinner fan if it cuts it close, buying a new case is a lot more $$$

I think having a fan in that spot will definitely help with temps. Qty-4 Tahiti's in a system is going to expel some heat.

What resolution are you using?

edit , just saw 27LCD in sig!...
edit #2, does the frame pacing driver work on more than 2 GPUs?

No, it won't work with more than 2 GPU's. That said, he will be so CPU bottlenecked that it might not matter.

Hmmmmm, there isn't a faster cpu out right now than Haswell. Not sure what else to do if you think I'll be CPU bottlenecked.

Is it because I'm only running 1440p?

I thought the frame pacing did work on more than 2 cards and the only cases where it didn't work were very high resolutions (eyefinity, 4k) and dx9 games. I don't actually know if it works on OpenGL games at all at this point, I suspect that is also a no but it doesn't impact very many games!

Have you got a link where someone has tested it and confirmed it doesn't work? I can't recall if pcper.com looked into this or not, I don't think they ever went past two cards.

7990 Quad-fire is well beyond overkill for a single 1440p monitor. Many games have a ceiling that no matter how fast your GPU's are, your CPU can't keep up. It varies a lot, and you'll see the bottlenecks causing massive FPS drops from time to time throughout games.

Yes. You basically want to go to 4k to make the problem almost exclusively the GPU. 1440p isn't enough load in most games to really be GPU limited on a quad fire system I suspect. I have enough cases where I am CPU limited on my dual 680's that I know you'll see many more with such insane amounts of GPU performance available.

It seems I fell for forum talk. I can't see anything saying 3-way or 4-way crossfire isn't supported.

Het Dookey how are the xfire 7990's doing?

I'm mainly DCing with them at the moment and they are pumping out some points.

However, I did run some benchmarks and scaling is BAD. In Valley I score no better than a single 7990. The total usage on each gpu is just under 50%. Same thing in 3dmark 11. I've turned off ULPS and tried multiple driver versions, but still poor scaling.

You've ran into a CPU bottleneck with excessive GPU power. You either need a higher resolution to push the GPU's more under the same CPU bottleneck, upgrade the CPU and overclock the hell out of it, or raise settings used to stress the GPU more.

Pay attention to my advice: buy an 1500W power supply and pick two 780HOF(Galaxy) in SLI. Overclock the cards past 1200Mhz.

In terms of RAW framerate the 7990s would be better, but will be hard to achieve full potential of four GPUs in great part of the games.

I too think you're CPU bound, didn't you have a faster CPU a few weeks ago? Have you tried Heaven and you aren't running Valley windowed are you cos quadfire only works full screen?

$660 is about the cheapest price for either a HD 7990 or GTX 780 here in Canada, which is about $100 more then what Americans can buy them for then add 13% HST Tax that amounts to $746 without Games - So much for the Free Trade Scam.

I'm not sure how I'm cpu bound. I have a 4670K running at 4.5ghz.

Haswell is the fastest thing out right now.

You have to look at it from all angles. Sure, your CPU is fast, but it does have a hard limit on FPS in many games and it varies a bit from place to place in the game. If you have GPU power to go way beyond the limit of the CPU at the resolution and settings you use, the CPU will hold back power.

A single 1080p screen can play most games at near max settings on a single 7970Ghz, and the most demanding games will require 7970 SLI, or a single 7990. With two 7990, you are way beyond what is needed for anything but Eyefinity setups so you are held back by the CPU.

3Dmark11 may not have a chance using performance settings due to the limit settings and resolution used, but use Extreme preset, and you'll be able to see the benefits.

Also I don't know and haven't investigated how well Valley uses more than 4 cores or HT. BF3/BF4 Beta might show the same limitation of the 4670K vs a 4770k or 3930k/4930k.
With 'Only' 4 cores even Haswell can be a restriction in a very few but important examples although tbh I'm not sure what they are other than BF3/4 Beta. His screen is 2560/1440 btw.
