Thanks to CT rebate laws, this week we get some extra savings...
All the items on page 3 of the CUSA print out have the AFTER REBATE price displayed... that's a NO NO in CT. So for CT residents, we get the advertised price out the door, plus we can then send in for the mail in rebate. The following will be your final prices AFTER mail in rebate:

Compaq Presario 2175US Notebook: $964.97

4X DVD+R/RW Internal Drive: $99.99

17" LCD Monitor (black): $209.97

17" LCD Monitor (white): $209.97

Epson Stylus C82 Printer: $49.97

SMC Wireless-G 54Mbps Adapter (PC Card for Notebooks): $29.99

SMC Wireless-G 54Mbps Adapter (PCI Card for Desktops): $29.99

SMC Wireless-G 54Mbps Cable/DSL Router: $39.99

160GB Hard Drive (7200rpm, 8mb cache): $59.99

Norton Internet Security Professional 2003: Make $35.01 (Make $65.01 if you qualify for the Upgrade MIR as well)

Norton SystemWorks Professional 2003: Make $35.01 (Make $65.01 if you qualify for the Upgrade MIR as well)

well, there you have it... some pretty hot deals IMO. all have been linkified for your viewing pleasure.

Wait did you get this in your local paper or are your referring to the price posted in your link? I dont think the CT rebate laws would apply to the web, but I could be wrong.

So, you had no problem doing this at CUSA?

How much does it cost to hire a lawyer to get this deal done?

no, the instructions are to print it out and bring to your local CUSA...
from CUSA website: "HOT Summer Deals Available One Week Only from CompUSA.
Print this ad and bring it to a CompUSA store near you to take advantage of these exclusive offers in store."

you are right in thinking this law doesn't apply to internet prices, however this is for a print ad (you print it). i've done this a few times before when they've had online ads they tell you to print out and bring to B&M. what they SHOULD do is have you enter your zip code and if you enter a CT zip, it should direct you to a different version of the ad w/ prices BEFORE rebate. thats what officemax.com does.

You can seriously walk out of the door with $70 of CompUSA's money? that's a bit hard to believe.

Assuming that the law applies here, then isn't the "price after rebate", that is quoted, that the store has to sell you the item for, in CT, still clearly marked "after rebate"? Therefore, sending in the rebate, knowingly, after already recieving the rebated price, is fraud, is it not?

The hot deal here should be not having to send in those damn annoying rebates, not that CT consumer law guarantees you automatically lower prices as a side-effect of any mail-in rebate offers.

I'm sure that in most cases, this plan would still work, but I wouldn't condone it.

good call larry, id imagine the whole point of rebates is that people forget to send em in, living in CT I'd love to not have to worry bout that, every now and then ill see something advertised wrong here, and think that if it was something I REALLY wanted I'd push it. seriously now, its monday any one try it out?

after reading about sucess in norwalk, i decided to go make some printouts, but i noticed that the rebates were still printed wrong according to CT law, but the prices mentioned in the first post were inconsistant. like the DVD burner is 149.99 AR
and the SMC wireless G router is 69.99 AR
odd. not as hot, still interesting, but not the fire under my A$ that i originally considered this deal.

been lurking in these forums for a while, thought i'd weigh in on this

i live and work in CT

a few years back, outpost.com had emachines listed as -$0.05 on their site
we called and ordered them, and when they asked for payment, we told them of the law
outpost.com is a CT company

in CT, the rebate law states that if you advertise something with its final after rebate price as the price without all of the rebate information spelled out, they have to give you the rebate at the register
also in CT, they can not require you to purchase something else in order to qualify for the rebate that they are advertising for the product you are purchasing, which is what outpost was doing: the -$0.05 price was after a $400 rebate for signing up for 2 years of MSN service...

it sounds iffy, but the laws are in place to protect buyers from sketchy advertising practices
the marketing folks at outpost at the time had said they told the sales people to change the prices online, but they refused

in any case, a bunch of us received free emachines pc's (many of which were donated to families that lacked a computer) and outpost modified their advertising and pricing policies

work to get the rebate at check out
if there was a loophole in CUSA's favor, there is no doubt they would jump at it

I went to Compusa (norwalk) after work after reading this thread.

i had the printout (all 4 pages, somewhere it says all 4 are required)
i had the state.ct.us dcr page about rebates,
and the ct rebate law,

i got 2 of the HD's, and waited for Steve (the front manager, whose really a nice guy, and the only guy who knows anything besides cashing people out, so his job is hell) I showed him the ad, he rang them both at 99.99, and then at the end was like, hold up, your rebates, and so I don't know wheither to use the rebates or not... The did double charge me for a vid card last week , and thats still not fixed

If the flyer is in CT and they are advertising the price after rebate, then they have to sell it to you for that price. What they are supposed to do is advertise the pre-rebate price and then state that there is a rebate available for xx.xx amount. My CC flyer does not have any after rebate prices listed (I'm in CT).

I'm going to give this a shot. Being able to walk out of the store with Norton SystemWorks PRO for 4.99 is worth it.

i say send in the rebates. steve is not going to be directly affected by the rebates, usu its corporate who is paying out the rebates never heard of individual stores coughing up the dough. i would also suspect that steve has a way to declare the lower value sale (on the $100 hd) as "goodwill act to keep customer" and blame it on corporate marketing dept being irresponsible or something.

if there was a loophole in CUSA's favor, there is no doubt they would jump at it
totally agree. none of us are looking to put anyone out of business, but the law is the law. i am tired of companies (see CC/WD 120gb hd rebate fiasco) taking advantage of consumers, this is fair game... just wish this law applied in FLORIDA!

Manager at the Manchester store outright refused to honor this. He tried to state that since it was a price off the website that it was not valid. I discussed it with him for about five minutes, and he looked at me and said, "I will not honor it."

yatta. CUSA rebates are teh suck in my experience. Oh well, guess I'll continue not shopping at that store.
