8 Month Old Deaf Baby's Reaction To Cochlear Implant Being Activated

The crazy thing is that a tiny number of deaf psychos say that cochlear implants are wrong because they're annihilating deaf culture or some such nonsense.

Yep, the dislikes have exactly to do with this.
There are people against babies having their hearing "artificially corrected" for two main reasons.

Number one, thr baby has no "free will" to decide if it wanted to hear or not.
Number two, they're called pro-deaf militants who believe their little circle of deaf people who use sign language are the true representation of what it is to be deaf, and deaf culture associated with it.

You'd be surprised how many (deaf) people hate this. It's like a threat to what binds them.
What's the kicker is that when this baby grows older, he's going to get discriminated by both normal hearing kids and the deaf kids. He'll be bullied for both not being able to hear well or not being deaf enough, depending on which school he attends.

Yeah its still pretty crude, however, there are lots of advances.

I think we'll be there once we can map the cochlea fully, and stimulate each part of it (representing a different frequency IIRC) accurately to be able to fully reconstruct the human dynamic range. btw, by 'each part' i literally mean each cell lol...that would be the true way to achieve it. While I think the software is there to pull it off, the technology is most definitely not there to actually get it implemented in the tiny size that is needed, as well as the scale of the massive amount of wiring in such a small location

The telephone companies did the initial research into vocoding its interesting how its being used today. It would be nice if they could increase the bands of the vocoder. Things would be way more intelligible.

I was activated four years ago this month. I had worn a hearing aid before the implant. It's definitely a great technology.

That baby is lucky to get a couple implants at such a young age. It would have been nice if cochlear implants were around when I was a baby. With profound hearing loss, I would have easily qualified for them. They're way better than hearing aids.
