8 port 10mbps net hub 9.88, comp usa

I was there last night, they had dozens of cheap (store brand?) hubs for 9.88, 8 port 10mbps, havn't tried it yet, also not sure which stores it might be avialable at.

I was at compusa manchester CT, they had a few in stock, so if your in CT the deal will be good, it was B&m brick and mortar

Thanks, I checked their website and they have the product, but you have to call in to order it. They have no specific product info for the hub. Buyer beware!

A general question: Why does anyone make 10mbps hubs anymore?
Or does anyone? These are closeout, obviously.

What would you use a 10mbps hub for? Internet sharing, I guess.
But you wouldn't want to ethernet two computers through one
(large file transfers are bad enough at 100mbps). Since in a home
network you want to support all kinds of transmissions (that is,
not just internet sharing but also file transfers), why use 10mbps?

I suppose if you were just using the hub for connecting to a printer
and no other computers, or something like that...

So bottom line: Provide a scenario where 10mbps is all you would
ever need...

10mbs is plenty for light network gaming

also the 10mbps, is superb to limit my father from hogging all my cable's bandwidth with his stupid internet jaz radio, and my brother's stupid real player webcasts of betty boop. and to free up ports on my 10/100 hub, I mean, my mom and her stupid laptop, she never uses the pc or the net,any way.

The 10mbps hub has greater bandwidth than your internet connect Unless you have an OC48 that is. A T1 is 1.5mbps and your 10Base hub is 10mbps, see the disparity? You aren't limiting anyone except on huge local file transfers.

100BT is not that much faster for most stuff. And at even best it seems about 4x as fast.

10mbs is fine for USB nics, Internet sharing, Wireless nodes, etc.

For me it's a matter of price. I picked up my Linksys 10baseT hub for $12 on sale, got my laptop's enet card for $8, my desktop's enet card (this one is 10/100mbit) for $11, and my gateway's enet card for $3... plus I don't transfer files much larger than 600mb at a time, and a 600mb file is finished in about 10 minutes... It seems good enough for me until I get some more $$ to blow...

i would like to disagree with the person that said you feel no difference between 10base and 100. it should be, and is, close to 10 times faster. i have two apartment mates, all of us have 3com cards ... my 100, friends 10, friends 100. the speeds are close to 10x faster between the 100s. i agree it isn't that useful, but you won't go back once you see the speeds.
