Not greedy, just waiting for good prices so i don't get gouged. Currently the price for a 3ghz 800fsb is around $500. While intel is saying that it should be

Pentium 4 May 11 Launch

3.0GHzHT 800 $417 »
2.8GHzHT 800 $278 »
2.6GHzHT 800 $218 »

I believe the May 11th release was delayed to about the 21st or so. I would guess that a week after that date prices will be near the prices you listed, assuming Intel can meet the demand for them.

Yes and that's why you can expect the slower 3ghz cpu to drop when the new one arrives.

Pricegrabber is showing that prices are starting to trickle down. Googlegear had the 3ghz 800fsb chip at 500 this morning, and its now down $11 to $489.

I'm looking to pick one up around $400 to $420 but i might have to settle for a higher price.

check that, looks like the price is now 479$ with free shipping, but its still showing as 489 on pricegrabber. Weird.

But good for us.

The Intel pricing is usually for 1000 pieces. Double check.

A local dealer here in NJ has the P4 3.0C in stock for $468.

I'm in the same boat with you, BootMe. I'm waiting for that price reduction to trickle down...but it sure doesn't seem to be happening very quickly. I think because of the holdup on the initial release, the chips didn't move into the retail stream as quickly as they normally would. It does seem that they are still in somewhat moderate short supply, which has no doubt kept the price up...in spite of the official reduction in price on May 11 (on lots of 1,000) (per Xbitlabs.com)

I have never oc'ed anything. I have always been way behind in computer tech. After college i thought i'd have the cash to start upgrading like crazy, but then life caught up with me.

Well i had some good fortune lately and i have the budget to build the computer i always wanted. Problem is i don't know how long this good fortune will last and im trying to upgrade everything to as fast as i can afford at the moment. Recently i have purchased an Antec PLUS1080AMG case with 430 watt truepower power supply, 512 megs of Corsair twinx3200 ram, a AIW9700 Pro video card, i had a 120 gb wdc hard drive with 8mb buffer (sale at compusa that i could not pass up), plextor 48x cd-rw, msi neo-fis2r motherboard. This is all here except the intel cpu, which i plan to get the 3.0ghz with 800 fsb.

I'm upgrading from a celeron 433mhz chip, tyan tsumani at board, 192megs of generic ram, 20 gig wdc hard drive, matrox g400 max video card, plextor scsi 8x cd-rw, and awe 64 sound card.

While i don't plan on overclocking at the start, i will plan to when this system starts to get dated. (by then i hope the msi board as all the issues worked out in the bios) Also, i'm trying to save some on the cpu so i can spend a little more on the montior. Which is 10 years old! I also want to get a dvd burner but i feel that i should hold out for 8x drives, so i dont have to wait forver to burn a dvd.

Gouged? Some of the newer Fab tools cost about $15,000,000 each. Figure out how many of those $500 chips it has to produce to pay for itself.

Whats wrong with Atech? Runtime had a lower reseller rating then they did by far, but my experience was fantastic with them.

bootme where are you finding 2.4HT for 178?

Thats on intels price sheet. I'm hearing it takes affect on may 21. I have not found any 2.4ghz 800fsb with that price. Currently i'm seeing prices around $193.87 at thenerds.net

I also found out from a different forum that
techmole.com has them even cheaper.................. $189 for 2.4C, etc.

They have 4 reviews on reselleratings 2 with slow ship. latest 2 O.K.

There is nothing worng with them per say. I just have not done enough buisness with them to be comfortable in dealing with them.

I just picked up my P4 2.4C for $161 including shipping and Texas tax. If you are interested PM me as I will not post how to's in this thread. If you have the patience to deal with price matches and online coupons than this is easy and works on other componets as well.
