Newegg has the full line of P4c processors in stock for pretty good prices. Unfortunately, they also have very particular restrictions on RMA for processors -- the return has to be postmarked 7 days from invoice date. The IC7-G (the mobo I'll be using it with) is on backorder at the moment and not expected until Friday, so there's no way I can order it now and be sure I'll be able to RMA a faulty CPU in time.

I hope they have enough stock to last until Friday, dang it. :|

Well one day before the price cut. Prices at Newegg for a retail 3.0ghz 800 fsb is $450 and googlegear is at $459.

hopefully we will see a good drop tomorrow.

I am planning to buy from Newegg, and I thought I understood thier RMA policy, but this post got me a little confused. So I called Newegg, it turns out that you have 7 days to Return a processor. If you buy the retail processor then you have a 3 year warranty with intel and a full year warranty with newegg. That means you can return a faulty processor to newegg for one year for a new one.

Oh, the phone monkey I called didn't explain that. I don't want to return it for cash, just if it's broken.

Now i wanna know if it's worth the extra $50 for the 2.8c!!

Well the way I understand it is that if you want to swap out a faulty processor (retail) then you have one year, then 2 years by intel. FOr what it is worth I am going for the 2.8. I am getting a $230 motherboard, why not spend 50 more on the 2.8.

So are the prices on NewEgg and GG (about $200) for the 2.4C the "dropped" prices or can we expect to see a lower price in the next week?

I'd like to know if anyone has further info on this, as well. I've waited this long, I suppose I can just wait longer and find out...

Thanks,

CK

Well they say that the prices on may 11, which was pushed back to may 21, were supposed to be as follows
Pentium 4 May 21 Launch (expected)
3.2GHzHT 800 $640
3.0GHzHT 800 $417 »
2.8GHzHT 800 $278 »
2.6GHzHT 800 $218 »
2.4GHzHT 800 $178 »

Currently i see the prices as such
Pentium 4 May 11 Launch (current)
3.0GHzHT 800 $445 » pricing from googlegear
2.8GHzHT 800 $299 » all are with free shipping and no tax
2.6GHzHT 800 $239 »
2.4GHzHT 800 $198 »

It looks like we are $20 away from reaching the expected pricing. If you wait, eventually the current prices will match the expected prices. I still havent bought my chip and i think a few more days won't hurt. Hopefully competition and higher quanitites of the chip will bring prices to an acceptable level.

The expected prices are for I believe >1000 pieces. Newegg just dropped to $197 retail and $183 OEM both with free FedEx saver shipping.
