Can someone please design a dual channel chipset that doesn't take a 25% performance hit?

I just upgraded to SiS655 DCDDR. I see no reason to upgrade again until next year when Prescott goes to the new socket type.

Prescott won't be using Socket 478? Could you link to details on the change? Thanks.

Edit: Er, nevermind, it's in this same article. LOL posted before reading it. Damn, I was hoping for once Intel would stick with the same socket for more than 1.5-2 years before performing a switch-up. The fact AMD has been sticking with the same socket for so long is a selling point for them.

Well, I was planning on going Prescott as soon as it's available and pairing it up with a Canterwood mobo. Now I may just upgrade earlier to a 200Mhz Northwood + Canterwood and plan on going with an LGA775 Prescott with Grantsdale next year instead.

Turbo Mode is expected to speed up i875 by 3-5% compared to i865 family.

Alright, screw Canterwood then, not worth the money... Next board upgrade: Asus 865PE, hurry up boys!

And they need to come out with PC4000 or something, so we can overclock these 800FSB CPUs to 1GHz FSB.

Mainboards based on i865 will be able to work with all Pentium 4 (Northwood) processors as well as with the first Pentium 4 (Prescott) processors manufactured with 90nm production technology.

Sounds good to me, the socket change will come later on... At least you can upgrade to a .09u CPU. (should be good for OCing)

I think that nobody should complain about Intel changing the Socket in 2004. The Socket 478 was first intro'ed in mid-2001 (with the i845 chipset and 2GHz Williamette). By the time Socket T replaces Socket 478, Socket 478 will have been used for almost 3 years, and will have spanned at least one generation of Celeron's, and 3 generation's of NetBurst CPU's. And even if it was something outrageous, still there's no reason to complain, God's in control.
