ok so i have the netgear router mr814 v2. i've used it for a long time but it started giving me some problems. for the last few days it would disconnect every once in a while, also, when i try to load a website, it'd take a second "looking" and "connecting", before it goes to load the website.

i know it's only b and my laptop is capable of a G but i'm perfectly fine with the b throughput. will a new G router help this situation? are new routers offering stronger and better quality signal?

thanks.

Yeah new routers do have increased range and performance, especially over a mr814 v2 which is, what...2 years old I think?
802.11g has a better range than b, So you should be able to see improvements with a g router.

True, G is superior...but it seems as if B has been fulfilling he needs until recently. Do you have any cordless phones or other wireless devices nearby?

Test your access point on channels 1, 6, and 11 (the only 3 non-overlapping frequencies) and see if you are still experiencing the same issues.

i have a cordless phone near by but it's a 900mhz, by design.

ok i have a dell laptop with built-in intel b/g card. what is the best performing g router that this card can use? i understand there's all these MIMO routers out there but the fact of the matter is the wireless card i have can't take advantage of that.

i guess my question is: what's the best plain old G router?

It is not such a hard decision in few weeks there are 802.11g going for $20.

If you wait few weeks, the holiday shopping would do even better.

G isn't supposed to go any further than B all it is, is faster. Newer wireless access points/routers may get better range.
