I've said it many times on this board - BEWARE THE TIGER-They are an unethical company and they have been known to sell credit card numbers to other scam artists.

which is why i used a CC with a zero balance that I can cancel......

I'm more concerned about getting working hardware than having my CC # passed out.

Anyone who is ever thinking about dealing with tiger direct should stop and think about it. I think it would be better to go to a casino and gamble it away, because even if you lose it there, you still had fun doing it. If you buy parts from tiger, it is most likely going to be a piece of rebuilt sh*t. I bought a "new" barebones soyo computer there. it didn't work from the start, and they wanted me to pay 50 bucks to ship it back next day air insured. I cut my losses and have never bought from them since.

Tiger is definitely a buyer beware situation.

The pccard showed it was working and installed but didn't see any networks.

I've downloaded a pdf of the manual and according to it the management address is 192.168.254.254 If I plug them in I power the power light and wlan light. When I plug a pc into one of the three switched ports I get a connection light and traffic light if the pc is broadcasting but nothing seems to come back to it. I can't even ping the management address. I've tried the reset button (which doesn't seem to do anything, at least from looking at the indicator lights). If I set the computer to use dhcp instead of setting a static it never receives an IP. As far as I can tell the router is terminally ill and doesn't seem to be responding to anything. I'll take the pc card home tonight and see if it can log onto my home network.

Anyway I called tiger and it took a while but I have an rma number and a prepaid shipping label in the mail to me. Citibank said they would gladly dispute the charges if they don't want to work with me but so far so good.

keep us updated on how well they handle any issues you have, seems like everyone here has had different experiences with them....

never been sent a shipping label before, that is rather unique.

They wanted me to just fax them the receipt for my shipping costs. I insisted the rep speak with his manager because I didn't want to pony up any more cash up front when I felt like I had already been lied to. It took him a few minutes but he came back and said they'd mail me one.

for $10 i figured wtf, if it works it works if not i can dispute the charges on my CC for some fun.

so i ordered 2 pcmcia cards ....

1 card simply says failed to start in device manager
1 card the antena is physically disconnected from the card, its loose by about 1/8 of an inch, im not even gonna try plugging that sucker in, im not losing my pcmcia bus or worse the whole laptop...

take it up with them in the morning or else call the CC company

Update, pc card at home was detected by the laptop and the drivers installed but no matter what it wouldn't see my network.

If someone gets something that actually works let us know!

Well... can't say I didn't try. I wish you guys the best luck.. just be reeeeely careful about shipping labels. They have a tendency to not mail those out. If you run into problems, check their name on ResellerRatings.com, and get the name of that follow-up guy they put explicitly there to deal with pissed customers.

blah... TD sent me some BS email about returning the product for store credit. I got a hold of a CSR on the phone and after about 20 minutes of back and forth he agreed that he would return the origonal cost to my CC (tho not the cost of the shipping back to TD ... which is ok ...

They offered me store credit, and to cover the cost of shipping back to them, but im never buying anything there again, so that road was out..

My product was physically seperated into two peices (previous owner pulled antena to remove card from pcmcia slot without ejecting it and antenna and guts pulled out of card .... still in 2 peices... can see green pcb sticking out between antenna and card.

I asked them what the "rigerious 7 point check" was. he said that is done by the vendors from which they receive their hardware. but looking at the next line, tigerdirect blatently says they do the check.
"Once TigerDirect receives an opened return unit it goes through a rigorous 7 point check to assure that our customers are getting what they paid for."

oh well, ill post reply as to if my cc gets the credit back to it or if it ends up with a charge for something else like restocking.

I realize this is a cheap product, and for 2 cards + tax and shipping, the total is $30, i dont really care about $30 which is why i was willing to try and order from tiger even given their history. I do care about the principal of screwing your customers.

Got all my stuff in, boxes all in perfect shape, every card and the routers still sealed in AS bags, stickers on every box stating it still qualifies for a full man. warranty, and inside a slip of paper from Siemens telling you to go to their web page to double your warranty period for free. Everything tests out ok and looks perfect. I guess its hit or miss with TD, glad I got taken care of so well.

Hope the rest of you do as well.....

I ordered a USB and a PCMCIA card for a cheap AD HOC network for my parents computers.

Their desktop took the USB and does Internet Connection Sharing for the laptop, which gets the PCMCIA card. I received no drivers, but both came in original boxes with warranty information. They appeared new and have been working with no problems.

Very good deal to get a wireless network up for less than $40.

Thanks TD.

Ordered mine about 2 weeks ago, got it in 3 days (I live in CT), After battling with it to get it on my domain and working with my network, they work fine. I picked up the $25 router and PCMCIA card.

I am pleased with how everything went...

Just thought I'd share my experience with this deal. This was my first dealing with Tiger Direct. I ordered 2 usb wireless nics and the $20 3-port wireless router. The nics looked like they were factory refurbished. They each had a sticker on the box saying that the carried the same warranty as a new item. They are both working fine. However, the router had no such sticker and was simply a defective item. The routing functions did not work at all. Inside the box was the RMA documentation, including the previous owner's original receipt (with name, address etc).

Last week I called up Tiger RMA the router. The CSR had to put me on hold for a while so he could get more info on the situation. After a few minutes he told me that they had gotten a whole batch of bad routers and once they found out, they sent the rest back to their supplier. He wanted me to ship the router back to them so they could issue a refund. He said if I faxed them the return shipping charges, they would refund those as well. I requested a prepaid shipping label and told him I knew they did that sometimes. He put me on hold for a minute again. When he came back he told me that he was going to go ahead and issue the refund and I should just throw the router away. He said they couldn't get anything back on it so it wasn't worth it for them to pay to have it shiped back.

I was a bit skeptical about it all, after all I had read from other people about Tiger. However, sure enough, just the other day, the refund for the router showed up on my credit card account. Maybe I was just lucky, but I feel I was treated fairly. The CSR I dealt with was very professional, and I definitely can't complain about the outcome. I guess with Tiger it's the luck of the draw.

My friend got a non-working one. He called the company, under warranty. He had to ship it to them but, a week later, he got a Brand new one back and worked perfectly.

This is unbelievable. Having to go through phonecalls, holds, RMAs, shipping back the items, worrying if you'll get refunds, waiting for them... I mean that's the whole point.

People consider themselves lucky when they get their money back for items that were shipped to them used and broken...

What's wrong with this picture... you should be outraged, warning people not to buy even one dollar items from Tiger Direct.

Instead you give compliments for being one of the few that manged to get their money back from Tiger Direct.

After asking directly in threads that featured TD workers and also emailing them same, I never got any type of refuting their horrible horrible record. That in itself seemed to be damning evidence against them. I wonder how the anti-Anandtech effect has touched them?
