I was having a discussion with my coworker about an upcoming project and did not think this would work. We are both more server guys than networking.

Our county is setting up a dwdm ring and will be providing us a handoff at all our main sites. If we had two links at each site for our east and west connections are we able to lag them together even though they're not physically connected? I always thought they had to be physical links.

Also if we have multiple sites can you lag multiple sites a to one main one (hq)?

Thanks.

You may be able to LAG them, but:

1. they'd have to be distinct links (i.e, one handoff can't be able to communicate with both handoffs at the other side), and,
2. they'd have to effectively be layer 1 repeaters that transfer Ethernet traffic unmolested

Also, you may run into timing issues if response time is higher than typical LAN latency.

Your best bet would be to call the provider and ask.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking in your second question. It sounds like your asking if you can LAG multiple geographically separate sites together

Sorry. iPhone typing.

I was saying can a lag be like a hub and spoke setup? Two ports on my hq switch can lag to multiple switches at other sites?
