I just got back from Compusa with this drive. Couldnt get my lazy bones out
of bed early this morning so I figured they would be a no-show when I got there.

To my suprise they had a stack of about 25 of them left. Nothing indicating they could be had for
for $99. In fact the sign had them for $169. Took it up to cashier and it rang up for the
correct price of $99....$107 out the door. Pretty sweet deal.

There's plenty on the Kearny Mesa store, it's odd that no one's picking them up. I just came back like 20mins ago, and there were a bunch. Hmmmm, does some people know something I don't?

Is this a really great deal? I seen it and wasn't sure, since Newegg has the real Maxtor ones for $120.

Anyway, there shouldn't be any shortage, there is about 50 (Yes, FIFTY) left in Tigard, Oregon store. And the price is right at $99.

There's actually quite a few Compusa stores in MN. Off the top of my head: Roseville, Edina, and Minnetonka. I picked up one today from the Minnetonka one. They still had quite a few.

I work at the Minnetonka store, we had 44 of them in this morning. It is only a limited special. They are not a regular item. I really want this hard drive to add to my raided server already at 130 gb, but I dont have the money. But special deals call for special exceptions. Btw, compUSA is selling below cost, more than $15 below cost.

Yes. It's an incredible deal. It's a "real" Maxtor drive, 80GB, with a full 3-year warranty. Just happens to be one of the rare occasions where Comp USA actually offers a loss-leader to draw people in without having to wade through a sea of rebates and 8-12wk waits.

The store in roseville CA has about 30 of these left, although I saw 4 leave in the 20 minutes I was there.

As an aside, when I snooped around the store there was another dozen on a far side end cap away from the main aisle near the cd drives. Had to walk down to the end and around the corner.

So if you dont find the pile o' drives near the entrance, look around.

bought 1 this morning at 11:07, I was worried I was already too late because when I walked into the hard drive aisle, there was a man walking towards me carrying six of them. An employee helped me find the rest - there were only 10 left then. When I got up to the register, behind the man buying six of them, I overheard an employee talking to who I guess was the manager about imposing a limit on them. But the manager guy said he wasn't going to since there wasn't a limit mentioned in the ad.

BTW folks... I ran the Maxtor Acoustic manager software to set this drive to "quiet mode" since this was going in my ReplayTV. To my surprise this drive was shipped in quiet mode, so for those of you who want max performance out of this drive then you may want to download the acoustic management software from Maxtor's site and turn off the acoustic management setting. This drive is super quiet... makes less noise then the original Quantum drive in my ReplayTV.

sweet! how difficult was the replay hack procedure? i plan on doing the upgrade with this drive but i've never done it before.

went to compusa in dearborn michigan this morning-- 80gig hard drive sold out along with the $29 32MB video card i wanted to get that was also mentioned in the flyer-- ended up buying the video card online when i got home-- had to pay for shipping AND tax...but still a decent deal for 32mb. i did buy the $5 keyboard and a $14 floppy at the brick and mortar.
