wasssup,

Thanks for the above posting. I'm in Piscataway, and was going to trek on over to CUsa to see what they had in Edison. You just saved me a trip!

Man, the Edison store NEVER seems to have any of the hot deal items. They suck.

Sorry to hear about the rude dude. If I were you, I would have laughed in his face. I can't stand people like that.

mattlear: yeah, I was talkin to some guy who works there, he said they usually only get two or three pieces of the item if it's a 'hot deal' ... tv wonder ve's are sold out over there too (i found the last one hidden between some tv wonder usb edition boxes)

If you do not see the drive on the shelf, ask someone. They had a bunch, but they did not put them out yet. Oh, yeah, it
was pretty fun when the guy went in the back and set off the alarm when he opened their inventory case. You've never
seen so many CompUsa employees move so quickly. Also, box states 3 year warranty, not 1. I've had good luck with the
maxtors, and I think it is a good deal

good thing i scouted for these hds last night at 2 compusas
the one by my house didnt have it last night, nor do they have it today, but there was a new tag added to the shelf stating the sale but no acutal drive.
so i knew there was a bunch of them at another store since i checked there last night, went in there at 10:00, there was already somebody carrying one of these off the shelf and i got one too right after him.

Both Compusa deals from the recent past:
Check the specs on the latest deals, but don't waste your money on a 5400. Those things could be ATA 100000 and it wouldn't matter. Even for storage you will notice the difference in loading...
Win98 turns into a sports car when going from 5400 to 7200. I thought XP was fast on the 7200, but finally moved Win98 over from the 5400. WOW!

5400RPM is fine for several applicatons. I got one of this today for ReplayTV. You can't touch this price online for a retail Maxtor so how you consider this wasting money is beyond me.

for anyone heading to the Ann Arbor store don't waste your time
since compusa is a good 20 min drive from me i decided to call and make sure they still had some
i was told there were still 53 in stock so i headed out
i get there and they are TOTALLY out of stock
i talked to some spaced out salesguy who had no idea what was going on
but luckily someone else was looking for the drive and i spoke with him
he had been told by a woman to call the sales manager
i did the same and was told if i called in a few days he could get me the drive for that price when it's in stock
so for those of you who don't get the drive today like me, there's still hope

also, on a side note..... i found it amusing that this drive was on display next to another drive on sale
you could pick between an $89 maxtor 20gb drive (on sale) or a $99 compusa maxtor branded drive
gee, which shall i choose

Just got back from CompUSA in Oxnard, CA.

I got 2 hard drives and there were at least 30 left. If there are none on the shelf, look above the shelves. I also picked up the ATI TV Wonder VE for $20 ($40-$20MIR). There were about 12 ATI TV Wonder VE's on the shelf, as well as about 8 of the DV Wonder (firewire).

Thanks for the deal!

The CompUSA in Nashville at 100 Oaks had a whole pallet of them. They also had plenty of the ATI TV Wonder cards and 300W PS's. The power supplys were not on the shelf but stacked over in the corner. You gotta look around Anyone had any luck upgrading a Showstopper with the 80GB HD? I found this site for ReplayTV Hack . Think it will work with a Showstopper?

I got one this morning at the Skokie IL store. They weren't on the shelf, but asked a clerk and found out they had them all in the back room. There were only two other people waiting for them.

As for it being 5400 RPM, that's plenty fast for my use. The drive is replacing a 30GB drive in the home file server that stores MP3's, in the process of ripping my 400+ CD's, ghost backup images of the other PC's in the house, and various archived stuff.

Got three 80GB hard drives for adding another one to my 80GB Replay and the other two 80's will replace my single 20 hour Tivo. These are the preferred drives for Tivo/Replay: as the 5400's generate less heat and the 7200RPMs don't create better recordings in either PVR. So this *IS* a hot deal for Replay/Tivo and all other users who need "cheap online storage" that functions as a 2nd or 3rd drive... That's the facts, Jack! j/k

FYI, they're at the Business Desk at the NYC 57th Street location. Don't know how many they've got left, but I just got one at ~3:45pm Sunday. And no, you don't have to be a "business"-class customer to get one... just walk up and ask, and ye shall receive.

just grabbed 2 myself to upgrade a 20gb and a 30gb Replay...26.5 hours at high quality will be a solid upgrade! for anyone in the NYC area who wants one (or more) the store on 38th and 5th has 166 of them in stock...well less now but still over a hundred. if they appear to be out ask them to go and get more out of storage. if they say that they are out have them punch in the sku on their system and then tell them to get you the hard drives!

Damn this forum!

I was in crapUSA checking on pricematching a monitor when I noticed a nice little AOL highspeed internet demo thing. So I jumped on one of the computers and came to this website. Of course I had to see a 80gig drive for $99. Walked over to the shelf and there were about 20 of them left. So instead of pricematching a monitor I walked out spending $106 on a HD Have to stop spending so much money....
