SSSSSSSSSWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.
I go to one at 11am, they say they have it for $299, and he won't punch it in cause the sticker on the shelf says $299. I say no thanks and leave. I call 1800staples and they say "that store has it, its $109.50" so about an hour later I run back to the store to hear "sorry theyre on clearance they sold out real fast, we only had a couple" from a different guy. I get real frustrated, call 1800staplse again. They check all the stores in manhattan, and don't find any..check flatbush ave and find 2! She even ofers to call and check, and she does, and after 15min hold she comes back saying "sorry i am getting the runaround, but this is your best bet."

I arrive at the store, none in sight. I ask the guys to go look at the back...and he brings out the 80gb 7200rpm...but guess what! it has the FREE ATA sticker..and they checked before and said none did. I say "hmm yes ill take this one, but the one i wanted before is external"...so a few min later he comes back out with 2 of the firewires! I say sweet, check the price please. He rings it once, $109.50. He's like enjoy. The guy next to him is like WHWAAAA? Takes the gun, and scans it. $109.50 Scans it three more times, $109.50 . He's like holy crap, these were ~350 not that long ago. I'm like yep. Thanks. I go ring up the 2 firewires, and the internal with ata card, and use my $50 coupon..the cashier knows me already she's like "DANG!" So as she rings it up, after my sale, she gets "OVER THE LIMIT! CALL MANAGER". Once again, i bought out staples! You guys RULE. Now im gonna return the internal without the ata card i bought .... and see what i should do with these firewires.

Whew, long post (also posted on obese pocketbook.. hehe)

Some bought the 2 I had on hold for myself. Manager did not check the name on the hold slip because nobody ever buys those drives normally. Next time I will have to ask them to hide it somewhere.

PM the Mods and have me banned only from the Hot Deals forum then

I'm probably going to use mine to simply backup my internal 60GB hard drive which it should have no problems doing.

Hmm.. I believe the one for 127 on Ebay may have been a cheaper/worse model. let's hope so.. I could use a wee bit o profit from all the money I've spent in here heheehe.

popeye44 - That's precisely why I only bought two. I'll use one or sell it to a friend later and keep the other shrink wrapped to sell on eBay. I don't expect a HUGE profit but I'm sure it'll sell for more than I paid ($84.50).

This is a great deal but I too am trying to stay away from here. I bought a laptop and now have 4 80 gb (WD 7200 rpm 75after rebates) from that Best Buy deal. This WOULD be great for transporting stuff around though!

I got my two at Rochester Hills, MI store. Last two they had. I got a real good run-around trying to find them local. Went to the first store that supposedly had them 0gave up on waiting onhold after 45 minutes) manager tells me that he sold the last two earlier that morning. Then he says, " don't know what the big deal about those drives are, they have been sitting around for a while, now people want them.. "hen he noticed the price and said "h, now I understand.." He offered to check other stores for me and found them at the Rochester Hills store and tells me where its located. i ask him if he could please call and see if they are in stock. I tell him about my earlier troubles with phone calls and I had my 3 yr old with me, so he took pity. He got stuck on hold for about 15 minutes while they checked stock. He started laughing saying that he was glad he asked for the store manager directly and could I imagine if he hadn't. Then he said that they really need to find a better way to do the stock checking part. Guy was really nice.

I managed to pick up the last one of these drives at my local Staples. Mysteriously the computer showed two more, but the clerk couldn't find them. So I bought a Pacific Digital CDRW, the Philips CDR 100 pack and a Muse 4.1 Channel sound card (clearance $16.50) and used the $50 off coupon.

Now I just gotta figure out how to get this thing running in Windows XP. Unfortuantely I can't read the driver CD in any of the six drives in my 3 PC's (Defective CD?) Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?

Picked up the last one in the Durham, NC store. It was already tagged for clearance at $109.50. I ask the sales lady if I could use the $20 off $100 printable coupon even though it says "no copies". She said sure. Got it for $89.50+tax. This will go great with my Apple IBook.

Nevermind, I am an idiot. I never actually had the unit turned on. It was plug and play in Windows XP.

scored two (manager told me that they have 5). Manager knew that it was discontinue and gave me 10% discount(plus 50 off 200 coupon). Total 159.24 out of the door with the staple gift pack.

Thanks for the deal

Several hundred of these drives available in the US. Nobody should have any problems getting any, provided you do the save a sale. Tell the associate to search by district.

I had two being held but I am not able to get them until tomorrow. 20 off 50 expires today!! I discovered that Symantec Norton Internet Security 2002 Std Edition w/$30 Upgrader Mail-in Rebate also has a 20 dollar Staples rebate making it free after all the hassle. Guess I will get one drive and Internet Security 2002 so I can use 30 off 150.

I hope that I can use front page of Winfax Pro manual for upgrade through Symantec!!!

That's why I always tell them to write my name and "request photo ID" on anything they hold for me. I also always ask the name of the guy who I talk to on the phone, in case someone in the store can't find my stuff and asks, "Well, who held it for you?"

Very smart, I don't do the "request photo ID" bit but I do make note of which employee reserved the product and provide them with my name, phone and ETA.

... Request photo ID

I will definitely do that next time. thanks Perknose.

By the way, the manager felt sorry for me and sold me the 120 gig firewire drive for the same price, so I was happy.
