One confirmed (shrink-wrapped) at the Pike 7 Plaza in Tysons Corner, VA as of 8pm last night. One unshrinkwrapped one at the Falls Church, VA store. I was able to snag the last two shrinkwrapped ones from the FC store.

Not much besides MAYBE access times. The drive in this enclosure is a 5400rpm D540X. You'd probably be looking at around 35MB/sec with this with a good controller - and maybe around 40 with a WD SE...it's just the limitation of the IEEE 1394 speeds, not the drives themselves...

Went to the Foster City, CA Staples and a guy just ahead of me got the last one. The manager said everything in the BayArea was gone except for one in El Cerrito.

WARNING WARNING Maverick319 and others re. Audigy firewire ports: I thought I was gonna do the same thing with my Audigy, but they are rated for DV devices ONLY! They will not support firewire drives, hard or cd.

I got a TI chipset firewire card off ebay for $25; there are others cheaper out there.

That being said, I'm off to my local Staples tomorrow morning! I will pass 3 on my way to work...

Thanks, Azshopper70!

Got one in Tampa last night, just before closing. It was the last on the shelf.

Just one more reason I'm glad I got one of those Umax6400 Scanners from Outpost.com a few months ago. It came with a TI firewire card. And I like the scanner.

I bought one of these Maxtors last summer. It had a problem with scandisk because of some bad sectors that could not be repaired. I called Maxtor support and they sent me a new one immediately! Before they received mine....and without a credit card. WOW. Excellent customer service.

Which store in Tampa, just so I know to avoid that one? I can't decide if I want to pick one up.

Since when has a coupon code ever been regional? This is national. There are two different ways to buy either online using the 5 digit coupon code number or using the printable coupon at your local Staples B&M. First call your Staples to see if they even have these in stock, a lot of the country is OOS.

5 in stock waiting for me locally. I was about to spring for the Staples $140 w/$40MIR drive and then get a case. This is exactly what I needed. Can't get enough storage!

Question: the $50 off $200 coupon says it expires 6/7/02. Does that mean it is still valid today?

The comment about the firewire port on the Audigy not working with these is bogus. I have a WD 80G firewire drive on my home PC that runs off the Audigy firewire port just fine!

I just called and my local store has two. Local store meaning it's about a hour away. I am willing to drive there but they list the price at $199.98. Has anyone found this item and been able to use the scanned receipt to get them down to $109.50 or are you all actually finding them at that price?

If you are finding them at $109.50, could you please scan your receipt. I have the scan from Azshopper70 but if I am going to drive an hour to get this, I would like a bit more ammo. If you scan your receipt, could you email me at tomgagne@hotmail.com.

Thanks...

<<where did you go check -- I got the last one in Coolsprings>>

Got mine in Hermitage... I can walk to the store in Bellevue, but nada.

Yeah, but the email talks about NY in big white letters surrounded by a red border. Your store in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska might have a problem with that. Now, if you had a copy of the email with the headline off the $30 coupon that's generic... Hmmmm...

I'm runing a firewire enclosure with a yamaha drive in it with an audigy firewire port perfectly!!! So I guess you are wrong. I've been doing this for 6 months. Not a single coaster.
