I didn't even know Samsung made HD's.

Looks to be a good deal though, the free shipping helps, plus no rebates involved & newegg is a GREAT company.

I had a 2 Gb Samsung around late 1998. It came in an EMachine I bought from Fry's for 149. I upgraded it for a work computer with a 10 Gb Seagate. I sold the Samsung for 55-60 on EBay. Seemed to work OK. Just don't hear much about them lately. When Fry's had a hard drive on sale but they didn't identify it in their ad, many times it would be a Samsung.

How good is Samsung hard drive?
Samsung is the cutting edge, they are pushing the boundaries others follow. This is a great deal!

Be weary of Samsung drives.

All hard drives fail, thus the MTBF rating, however I stopped using Samsung hard drives after the 4.3gb drives (almost everyone of them) failed after a few weeks, months, and in some cases a few days. This was when i was working as a tech at a local computer store. We went through hundreds of these drives before pleading with the company to switch to something else. We went to Western Digital and Maxtor drives..

Granted I haven't tried any samsung drives lately. Hopefully they don't still suck.

How important is your data?

samsung drives are not that great. they used to fail a lot, and then samsung stopped making drives for a while. maybe they'll get it right this time around. i mena they make good ram and monitors, they wouldnt wanna soil their name by making crap drives.

Before then. Way back in the day when I built my first PC. Oh, that was five years ago in the summer of 97, I bought a Samsung 1.2 gig. Its still kicking. I'm using it is a back up drive with OS files on my server.

Strange, I have Samsung 8.4 gig for years already, still works perfect. It seems that 4.3 was some really bad vintage. It happens, it happened to WD and IBM as well, there is no safe company. Samsung made the first hard drive with 60 gig per platter, I guess you'll see 180 gig Samsung soon.

I have a samsung 4.3 gig drive
bought in 1997, still works.
It's in a PC that operates 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year, running
SETI since 1997. It never sleeps.

I hope the data I am sending the
SETI server is not all corrupted.

The brands have different reputations at different
times.

Back in 1993, Maxtor made the worst hard drives
and everyone wanted a Quantum Fireball.

Are any of you guys old enough to remember
those days? Tom's hardware guide was
just a toddler of a website at that time.
